AA 7 in 44-40 Win. Rifle
« on: September 22, 2014, 08:50:52 AM »
Good Morning,

a saying told , never change a running system , but no risk no fun.
My current load for my Uberti `73 is 8.8 grs  Hodgdon  HS 6  and a 200 grs soft cast RCBS Bullet with Emmerts Lube
very good out to 100 m.

Why shall i change this ?
Since some Times ago a new Manufacture called "Lovex"  present their Brand for a good price  much chaeper (10 Euros less)  as Hodgdon.
Lovex seems to be similar  to Accurate Arms Powder.
The Load Data Chart told that AA #5 are similar to HS 6
I have run a trial with No# 5  / Do36 Lovex but it is much faster as HS 6 so i reduce the Charge about 1 grain.
Accuracy are real good but the Powderlever  are not high enought to  give a good Loading Density.
Next possibile Powder is AA#7 / D073.1 Lovex Powder

Unfortunately there are existing no Load Advises in the Network for AA#7 or Do73.1 for this Cartridge

Have you gor any experiences with this kind of Powder ?

thx for your info

Good morning RB 45-70.

I  have never used AA#7.  However, the number two Accurate Smokeless Powders Loading Guide lists the following information for the 44-40.

11.2 grains of AA#7.   Velocity of 1000 fps.   Pressure 11,300 cup.  Bullet used was the Lyman 200 grain #42798.

The test gun was a Win M92 carbine with a 20 inch barrel length.

Hope this helps.

Best regards,  Ike

Never load smokeless by guess. I've used AA7 in 32 mag and it makes a great high velocity load with lighter bullets.  Was developed for +P 9X19 by the Israelis and used in the Uzi.
