Gunfighters Book by Chris McNab
« on: August 10, 2014, 07:32:37 AM »
Looking for books on the 1873 Colt Peacemakers and also books on gun fighters. The Gunfighters book by Chris Mcnab looks interesting. Anyone who has this one, would you  recommend it or are there better out there.

I have that book.  It has a lot of great photos, both of guns and historical photos.  The text and especially the captions have a lot of misinformation.  Some appear to be errors, but some info is just flat out wrong.  It depends on what you're after.  The book has great glossy photos, but there are better books for actual research out there.

Thank you CC Griff. I am more interested in the historical & gun photos so this looks like what I want. I can always ignore the text. :D

Slowhand53,

Just my opinion, but the Gunfighter is a picture history series along with several others that are quite valuable for their photographic information.
Text or data maybe somewhat off base, but this too needs to be taken into account for the rather general info being offered.

I think the hard bound version and the soft bound versions are well worth having.
My best,

I second Rosa's "Age of the gunfighter."  Pretty good text with offbeat subjects like the wild days in California, and especially the copious pictures of all manner of firearms, many of them quite obscure but to be found in the old west. Almost all of the firearms are from the Buffalo Bill Museum in Cody, WY, and the Gene Autry Museum in CA.
