Ruger new Vequarios
« on: March 10, 2007, 09:55:04 PM »
How close is the New Ruger V's to feeling and being close to a ruger in profile?
Would you consider them a good historic repersentation of a single action 'colt'? somewhat close?
I gather no action jobs are needed on rugers,,and the blue seems to really be good also.
7 1/2 inch barrel  .45LC would be my choice.
thanks,

Marshal Deadwood

Marshal Deadwood:

We have several & the best thing that I reckon is a lighter hammer spring & maybe a trigger spring.
I do our own 'smithin' for the most part.

Other things I've done to our Ruger six-shooters is:  (just what I can handle)  CHEAP MODS HERE!!!
(1  17# hammer spring (always)
(2  Lighter trigger spring (always)  For safety---Don't go too light!
(3  Heavier base pin retain spring (sometimes)
(4  Longer ejector rod & housin' (on some guns ya can't)
(5  Shorter base pin (sometimes)
(6  Camfer the cylinder front edges
(7  Mod into Bisley Vaquero (sometimes) $pendy!
(8  Mod into Birdshead (occasionally) $pendy!
(9  Shorten barrel & remount front sights (twice) Easy on Blackhawks
(10  Change grip panels (usually)

But then I'm kinda a cheap-ass & like to do stuff myself.

If ya wanna go first class---I can recommend some real great Ruger gunsmiths in your area.  PM me.
But I reckon the RATS will chime in with their favorite mods.  I've typed enough!

Your Pard,
Mustang Gregg

Yes I would consider them a good representation of the Colt SAA. They offer 90% of the experience of shooting a colt.

I 've read some where that the grip frames from the old model vaqueros can be adapted to the new smaller vaqueros. Any one tried to fit up a birdshead or bisley grip frame to one of these. Would really like to try this if anyone has any info.
