Spencer carbine oddity with a rifle s/n
« on: May 04, 2018, 09:52:38 AM »
Hello,

I have a Spencer carbine with serial number 9769.  I'd appreciate it if anyone can provide information as to the date of manufacture and service history. According to Two Flints the s/n is between serial numbers of rifles issued to the 5th Independent Company of Ohio Volunteer Sharpshooters on August 16, 1863.  Yet, this carbine appears to unaltered. I've attached a few photos.
thanks for any info.

You have a 1865 model carbine. These had there own serial numbers until end of production so it is possible to have 3 different model Spencers with the same serial number

Thanks a lot that clears it up.  Where can I find more info about the 1865 model?
