I will say this about that...
Original M1911 frames are softer than the WWII-issue frames.
How do I know?
I used a 1917-built Colt - re-built by them in 1926 to M1911A1, served in WWII and Korea, then fitted with a new Colt QAP slide and S&W chrome-lined barrel for Vietnam.
All work was Government-done - and met all standards then in effect, and when I got it, it was in great condition.
During one competition summer, I put 5000 rounds through the weapon, and ovalled-out all of the pin holes...
I applaud shooting the originals - just use common sense and install new springs - and 'maybe' even a recoil spring buffer - and shoot nothing hotter than Service Ball, and leave the 'shoot-fast' stuff to .45's of later vintages.
That's why I got one of the new M1911s that Colt built a few years back.
Good Luck!
