« on: April 23, 2011, 11:43:27 PM »

Not a cheap copy of that one. I believe the blade alone is worth a couple of hundred $$$$.

You can get a custom made for less than that.

Knives like this one are commonly found on the table of a fantasy knife dealer at most gun shows.

'Atlanta Cutlery' has some - they supply the trade for many - and so do some of the suppliers of non-guns for costuming.

Look at both 'Atlanta Cutlery' and 'Dixie Gun Works'.

Good Luck.

Im not really looking for a CHEAP copy, more like half the price of this guy. Also, Im not looking for something exactly the same just a big thick bowie. I want a knife I wont be afraid to use. Im not chopping anything with a 600 dollar knife.

DR,

If you are wanting something very authentic, do a google search for Tim Ridge.  His shop is called Swamp Fox Knives.

He is noted for selled very authentic 1800 and 1700 period knives.  Everything he sells is hand forged and unique.  I own two of his knives and they are favorites in my collection.

And yes, they are made for use.

If you're looking for a good bowie, and one you can use, then take a look at Chuck Burrows' work at Wild Rose Trading Co. - www.wrtcleather.com

He made mine.

There are also several custom makers on this forum.

These were all made by J. Jacobs. The large one cost me about $125 some 5 years ago. I am not sure if he is still making knives but he used to be up in the Washington/Oregon area.

All three of these hold an excellent edge...

Google in DC knives and leather and see what he makes . All custom work at the price you are talking about. He could make a copy of the one your showing if you wanted or any thing else the way you wanted. KT

I have had my Bear MGC bowie for years. If I remember correctly, I got it off of eBay.....I had the sheath made for it by Kid Couteau of Walking Wolf Leather.

Chuck Burrows took sympathy on my moneyless plight and made me a nice knife out of an Indian (Swootz/Damascus).

Here are the before and after pics:

Actually, Crazy Crow is selling a blade right now that looks similar.  I think they call it a Canoe Bowie or somthing like that.  It is German steel with a 9" Blade or somthing.  Not a scale tang, but the only thing I can think of right now.  I want one, and have used blades from them before. They are good quality, and worth the price.
