Poll

What's your opinion of Wild Bunch (WB) matches?

WB needs to be left as a side match at a CAS event.
WB should become it's own independent shooting sport.
It's OK to mix WB shooters in with cowboy shooters at a CAS match.
I hate WB matches, they shouldn't exist.
I don't care.

If it becomes popular, it could become a separate sport, like 3gun.  At a CAS event it should be a side match, not a class.

NEVER mix in with the regular stages, IMHO

All this as a distraction and a detraction to the main theme of our sport!

No not really ;D

I've had discussion about this type of subject at the area clubs I shoot at.  All those opinions up there are statements from various cowboy shooters I associate with.  I'm just interested in what everybody thinks about the growth of this new branch of our sport.

Howdy;
I am fairly new to CAS and local matches are few around here...so when there is a monthly match a lot of pards show up.
It takes a while to get everyone through the stages as it is!!!
Now throw in a WB stage.... more time to get through.
I tried WB and wound up getting a 1911. I love it..but I don't think WB belongs in a group sport called "Single Action Shooting Society"
I have some pards up here that gave up on SASS because of how long it took to get through a 5 stage day.
Heck pards a lot of us are 65-75 years old!!!!! Hard on the old knees!!
Well you asked!!!

I fully support this new sport.  Local club runs it as a separate match.  Another area club co-mingles it as a "Pike" class w/ other SASS categories at 5th Sunday match during monthly matchs.  Lots of fun w/ no problems & no complaints.  I'd like to see it  continue to grow in popularity.

What's your opinion about the future of Wild Bunch (WB) matches?
The future looks good. We do it as a stand alone match on months with five Saturdays. Now we are trying to schedual a regular monthly match, maybe the Sunday following our regular SASS match, this way we can leave some targets out for the next day. Don't care to have it co-mingled with a regular SASS match, but do enjoy the big matches that have a WB match on side match day. I know this is sorta dead horse but, it would grow much faster if the would allow 38/357 rifles with 158gr that can meet the power factor, we do locally. At first I was agin it, but now that I've shoot several matches I see no reason to restrict the 38/357, with the power factor they make just as much noise and clang as anything else. Invite a friend and lets keep it growing. :)

I like it however I can get it!

If it does go it's own way I think that bolt action military rifles should be required. But that is just my preference because I shoot it as a military category.

I shoot at 2 clubs that allow WB category mingled with regular CAS.  I don't see any down side to it.  It doesn't take any longer to complete the match.  The only difference is that the RO needs to be aware a a few differences in the rules.  There are those folks that don't like it cause it "ain't cowboy".  While that may be strictly true, aren't we all primarily out here to have fun?  And I'll refer you to the Mauser in "Big Jake".  If it's in a John Wayne western, ain't it Cowboy?  ;D

Folks is already doin' that:  Look up a group called "Zoot Shooters".

Down in South Dallas, they hold "Gangsta Action Shooting" matches every Friday and Saturday night.  They have no period restriction on allowed weapons, but they do require participants to hold a 90 degree tilt with their side arm.  They even offer a mounted course of fire from a mechanical conveyance.

Maybe I'm the only guy on the planet who didn't like the movie...

I don't care much whatever everyone else does; have at it.

But for me, box stock 1911s are a pain, 1911A1s shoot too high for me (with the same pain), none of our 1911s qualify under the rules... and I'm not interested in shooting pump shotguns.

Guess that makes me a crusty ole Luddite or something...

Your survey doesn't allow for multiple answers.  I have yet to attend one... But, I'm anxiously awaiting the side match at our annual next weekend!

I voted as separate event.
One reason is that I would hope that eventually WB would encompass more than 1911 in 45.
Maybe enough interest with more open allowance of firearms just like in CAS shooting will bring back some modern replicas.

The SASS WB rules provide the foundation for both WBAS and the WB Side Match.   Your poll may not get you the info you are looking for. :-\  Currently WBAS is a separate game, and the WB side match is still alive and well as described in the rules.

Just for clarification,  are you asking if WBAS should not be a a part of the SASS organization, and therefore governed by something else?

I think, as do the WB committee members, that Cowboy and WB should not be mixed.  "Wild Bunch Action Shooting is not Cowboy Action Shooting with a 1911." :)

Well I'm glad to announce our trial run with the WB matches last year has now turned into a full time monthy match ;D. We have them on the Sunday after our regular 2nd Saturday SASS match, and even had an extra match this month on the fourth Sat. Being able to leave out enough targets from the SASS match has been great as far as set up and tear down. We continue to grow and the costumes just keep getting better, come see us. ;)
