Remington Rolling Block
« on: May 22, 2016, 12:24:49 AM »
I have a friend who would like to shoot a Rolling block in our local fun matches where we have added GAF categories and he asked me today what military uses is was put to, by what countries and what sort of a hand gun he could shoot with it?  His is in 7MM but that really doesn't matter so much as what what countries used it and what hand guns would be available today that would match it and from what era?  I suggested the Russian combination with the S & W top break .44 style handguns.

I know you guys will have several other ideas but remember that we need to find a hand gun to match it he won't have to spend a small fortune to acquire.  I know this was widely used by the Spanish, Egyptians and several other countries but don't know what the hand gun combinations may be.  Any practical ideas?
Happy Trails

At the bottom is the list of all the Military users of the Rolling BLock.  Plenty to pick from.  As its a 7mm I'd just pair it with a Colt DA and head south of the border.  But any user from 1865 to 1900 is fine.  Which is just about everybody!  Someone once called the Rolling Block the AK-47 of the 19th Century.  I concur.

My Roller is a NY State Militia 50-70 and I love it!

For whatever reason I seem to shoot it really well. Seems like every time I've won a GAF match it has been with my Remington. The last time was the Nebraska Division Muster earlier this month.

I've shot it with a 1858 Rem. repro, my 73 colt repro, and my schofield repro.

I used to have a Navy Rolling Block, and shot it one year in the National Muster.  It worked quite well, just not as fast for me as the Trapdoor.  I don't think there's any doubt they were the 19th Century's answer to the AK-47!
