« on: December 20, 2011, 09:38:40 PM »
After shooting smokeless rounds lubed with ALOX, what would you clean the bore with to make sure there was no ALOX residue left,,before ya shot black powder rounds lubed with SPG ?

Thanks

Just clean like always with any good gun cleaner, then run a couple of wet patches of Ballistol. I switch back and forth all the time with no problem. Good Luck :)

Thanks Jefro..I've just recently started using some ALOX lube...for my causal plinking when I didnt wanna clean the guns so much :),,,and was concerned about the residue from the ALOX mixing with the bp fouling,,now that I'm ready to switch back to BP loads.,,,,although I do clean even smokeless very very through.  I have the ballistol,,so I'm in business !

I use Javelina brand bullet lube (50/50 Alox/Beeswax) WITH my BP .44WCF loads and have no problems.

Once you get a BP load that you like, you can switch to Fad Powders while still using bullets lubed with BP lubes.(except with high velocities)

No cleaning required. ;D  I can shoot smokeless and then just switch to black powder rounds with no cleaning. The nice groups on the targets tell me that cleaning is not necessary.

While I am an acolyte or total novice when dealing with the dark arts, I am trying to learn.  But one must remember that the one True Powder in cartidges had a reign from about 1860 till approx 1892 ish what with Mr Krag and Mister Mauser and Maybe Mr Lebel.

The fad started in 1890is folks have been saying it will never last for about 122 years; thinking it might be here to stay.

I use and enjoy modern propellants AND the original gunpowder.  There is no doubt that modern powders have some very important advantages, but blackpowder does an excellent job when being used in appropriate situations.  Blackpowder cartridge rifles often perform better with BP.  You can't beat BP for use in antiques that were engineered with BP as the primary or only propellant. for example fine old shotguns with damascus barrels. AND it is just plain FUN making the 19th Century live again!

AND The true gunpowder has been around at least four times longer than smokeless!
