Marine Uniform on e-Bay
« on: November 23, 2011, 07:31:32 AM »
Hello!
While looking for something else, I noticed a reproduction enlisted Marine uniform on e-Bay.  I can't figure out how to set up a link to it, but search for USMC frock coat.

On a similar note, Jack Stewart is selling of his Turn-Of-The-Last-Century USMC gear!  Many of you know of Jack's book "Cowboys in Uniform" which it the Rough Riders Re-enactor's Bible, but he is also a VERY talented saddle maker and has made some amazing accouterments.  If you search his other items you will find the correct leggings, a USMC marked canteen, the correct shirt (and it isn't the standard Army 1883), campaign hat, and best of all the PROPER USMC UNDRESS CAP!  No company repro this hat which is VERY distinctive from the Army M1895 and later M1902 caps!  Jack couldn't find a repro, so he got an original and made his own and it is superb.  If I had a Lee Straight Pull I would be all over that cap, but alas...I don't do USMC and can;t afford to branch out. :-(

This is a once in a life time opportunity and the sizes are human!  This is your Guantanamo Bay, 55 Days at Peking, and Wind and the Lion impression ready to go!

I just looked at the stuff FTrooper was talking about.  All I can say is "WOW!!".  It's a good chance for someone to be the best-dresses Marine out there!

Hey Chris,
Thanks for the link to Jack's ebay gear. He made me a Stock saddle some years back, but I've kinda lost contact with him lately.

Very, very tempting.  I seem to recall that I was once a Corporal of Marines many years ago (but I don't remember being in the Spanish American War).  However, I'm a few inches taller than Jack it appears.

Actually, that stuff is a great deal!  For the quality he should be charging much more.  The closest thing that QM shop has on their webpage for a coat is $439, trousers $169 and that is with no insignia (I am sure since the USMC stuff is not online they add a nice charge for it).  The cap is worth $200 easy, the leggings are priced right used (otherwise they are $125+ and he uses original hardware, he couldn't make a second pair if he wanted too).  Shirt and hat are also pretty much priced right.  And you wouldn't have to wait for it 6-8+ weeks!  On top of that, Jack is going to donate some of the funds from the sale to the USS Olympia, if you are not familiar with its struggle, I suggest you look it up.  One proposal for the future of Admiral Dewey's flagship and the ship that brought the original unknown soldier back is to sink her as an artificial reef!!!!

Again, this is a very good price and I have a VERY hard time talking myself out of bidding on it myself.  I even found myself shopping for Winchester Lees the other night so I could justify buying Jacks kit (that's like buying a '57 Chevy because you have a great set of hubcaps for one)...ugh!

Like I mentioned, this is probably the ONLY chance to get the hat and leggings ever.  Even the shirt is a hard one to come buy.

Scout, leggings will cover up the fact that they will be high-water trousers!  ;D

The price is pretty awesome since you do pay extra for Quartermastershop to make things not on their list but makeable with the uniform regs.

Their stuff however is excellent quality and they have always made sure that they got things right  - when i have had them make USRCS uniform items.

I am glad the jacket sleeves and pants are too short otherwise - I would probably buy the whole kit available.

Awesome uniform set-up!

Don't fight it, General!  Go ahead and buy it so you can bring it to the 2012 DOM Muster to show the rest of us!
