Basketweave date?

Gentlemen,  I'm curious.  When did basketweave stamping first make its appearance?

I always associated it with the early part of the 20th century but that may be wrong. Maybe someone else here will know a more accurate answer to that.

Hi

I keep my copy of Packing Iron at my desk, the first basket weave holster is labeled as 1885 to 1895 on page 92.  Slim Jim Holster.  I have enough fun with the dang Meander stamps, I ain't going after the Basket weave.

That's helpful, Mike.  (Should have looked for it in my copy!)  How about fish scale stamping?

Well, that's a lot earlier than I had thought. Thanks for that, Mike. Now I'll have to dig out my copy and look it up.  :D

In my mind I associated it with early 20th century through ....... today police type. My dad and grandfather were lawmen and both of them loved the black basketweave gear.

Being from the 19th century is older than I would have guessed also. I was just about to break out my Packing Iron book when I read the comment.

I did basketweave first and have been wanting to try out the Meander stamps.

 :) Ummmmm  ;)

Basket Weave is seen as commonplace before most written language.  Ancient Egyptian glyphs show Basket Weaving.

Was this helpful??  Best I could do on short notice.  A tisket a tasket a Gren and Yellow Basket??  Some Better??  Or Ima Confused (Famous Egyptologist)??
