Brigade Champion, Department and Division Champions
« on: February 01, 2010, 05:23:28 AM »
I'm glad to see that the Departments and Divisions are beginning to hold their own Musters.  This is something we've been promoting for several years and its finally starting to see some effect.  I encourage everyone to support their local Musters whenever they can.  Our Musters offer a different shooting venue than offered by SASS, NCOWS and NSSA, and are always a lot of fun.  Besides, where else can you get out and shoot a Krag or 1873 Springfield in competition.

However, I want to stress that the Brigade Champion, winner of the Iron Trooper Award, can only be awarded at the Grand Muster.  A Department or Division Muster Champion is not a Brigade Champion, though their honor in being a Champion is certainly not to be slighted.

Now that we're starting to see Department and Division Musters, the question arises as to what should be we call these local Muster Champions?  I've heard a recommendation that we might call them the Regimental Champion for the Department and the Company Champion for the Division.  I welcome any other suggestions.

General,
Actually, I like the wording you've already introduced in raising the question.

Grand Champion (short for Grand Army of the Frontier Champion, decoration known as the Iron Trooper) = Awarded at Grand Muster.
Department Champion = Awarded at one of five Departmental Musters (Atlantic, Missouri, Platte, Pacific, International).
Division Champion = Awarded specific to any number of Division Musters.

I know it's relative, but somehow for me use of the terms regimental or company just don't convey the same "dignity of office". ;)

Works for me.  I'm just interested in seeing what thoughts there might be on the subject.

Well, we allready call the "Grand" champion the Brigade champion.  Thats pretty much set.  Calling the others by Dept. and Division is certainly doable.
Civilize them with a Krag . . .
