I'm honored...
« on: March 27, 2006, 03:32:52 PM »
and humbled. I've been selected (as W.F. Cody) by the Governor to introduce the new Nebraska Quarter on Friday April 7th here in Lincoln. I'll be one of three speakers including the acting director of the U.S. Mint and the Governor. My final talk is now ready after having been back and forth between me and the Mint four times for PC revises and shortening the time. I'll be on at 9:09 a.m. and have two minutes and fifteen seconds to tell the history of Nebraska. Expected attendance is about four thousand. Everyone under eighteen in attendance will receive a new quarter. I'll have to buy mine. Thanks and take care.

Terry, it's a great honor, and well deserved, but you need to think about a personal aircraft for all your appearance so you can make them all... ;D ;D ;D

Gosh Terry I sure wish I could be there.  It seems like yesterday that you left your sickbed to travel to Desmoines to meet up with me.  I sure am proud to call you my friend.  I am so happy that things are going so well for you.

Terry:

I don't mean to step on our esteemed Editor's toes, but would it be possible for you to send some info (maybe a pic, too) about this along to The Shootist? I would think that this kind of event/honor would be something that all of our members would be interested in -- and proud of.

Haven't seen the design........

Terry, did they put your picture on it?  (As Cody, of course!)

You kinda got short-changed, (pardon the pun!) havin' to tell the history of Nebraska in a little over two minutes.

"Uh....we kilt the Indians and the buffalo, uh.... plowed up the prairie, uh....oh, yeah, we....uh... planted wheat and corn.  Thank you and have a nice day!"

That would be about all I could manage, I'm sure Terry will do a lot better!

Grizzle and all,
you pretty much got the story except that the US Mint took out the offending parts about killing the indians and buffalo and plowing the prairie. We did however plant corn and wheat and grow cattle. Thanks and take care.

Grizzle and all,
I forgot, the selected design depicts Chimney Rock with a Conestoga heading west out of the state. We just herded 'em on through like we do today on I-80. My personal choice would have been the Standing Bear design but I wasn't on the selection committee. Thanks and take care.

Sounds like a two-bit role in a two-bit event

Sorta, but my appearance fee is considerable more than two-bits and is increasing with each event. ;D Thanks for the observation. Take care.
