Custom Holster for M1909 Revolver
« on: September 15, 2010, 09:07:19 AM »
I am in need of a custom holster for my M1909 Colt New Service revolver.

This is what I need:

http://picasaweb.google.com/wkambic/M1909ColtNewServiceRevolver#5517140578115975666

http://picasaweb.google.com/wkambic/M1909ColtNewServiceRevolver#5517140582707086738

So far I've contacted Trailrider who said that he could not help me.  I've one other "feeler" out with no reply, yet.

Any help in finding a maker, or other places where I might ask, would be appreciated.

As a side note, I did find one original with an asking price of $850.  That, unfortunately, is a "non started" both on price and the fact that this will be a "using" holster, not a museum piece.  Not that I have anything against museum pieces, it's just that I don't want to seem them lost through routine, modern use.

Thanks, in advance, for any help.

Thanks for the help so far!

I did talk with Jerry at WPG and he said if I wanted 200 he could probably get them made.  But not just one.  :'(

The Cabela's offering is pretty different.  I'll try Pacific Canvas and see if they can help.

did you find one yet?  If you are handy, you could pick up a Brit WW2 Webly holster and do some mods.  To my eye they look pretty close.

Thank you for the suggestion of the Webley holster.  I spoke with Doug Kidd this weekend and he suggested the same thing.  He has one he'll let me have and see if we can make it work.  I only need a "close enough for government work" solution.  This may be it.   ;)

You should have given me a shout at the weekend. We used a Webley leather holster during the NCC. Actually, what happened, was, that during WWII the Officers of the British Army all had to wear sam brown with holster when at home. As the WWI Webley Mk VI had been replaced by the smaller Webley Mk IV .38, the expedient was to shorten the Mk VI holster for the shorter barrel. This is the item we used at the NCC using a Ruger .45. A great fit.

Is your wife the lovely Doctor of Navy? If she is what a charm she is. If you are her husband you are not bad either!!! lol

When I got back to Blighty, my Doctor said I had broken a rib, torn my back muscles and had internal bleeding in the lungs. Besides that I was fine lol.

You mention Doug on another post. Is this the Doug who assisted the authenticity test? If so, I would love his email address as he was a gentleman.

Hey, Stan!

The Webley idea came up when I was talking with Doug Kidd and showing him the photos of the original.  If my “head and ass had been wired together” I would have asked you.  My bad!!!!!

Yes, Sandy is a retired Navy Flight Surgeon (and currently is a semi-retired Occupational Medicine specialist).  She says she’s glad you’ve gotten properly evaluated and wishes you the best in your recovery.  I, too, send my best wishes!!!

Doug Kidd is the principle of Border States Leather.  Their web site is:

http://www.borderstates.com/

You can contact him through the website.  Or use CavSaddler@aol.com

He did do an outstanding job with the Mounted Saber competition.  I was not in Authnticity so I'll take your word on it!  I hope we can have him down again next year.

What are the prospects for you and your team?  We truly enjoyed your company this year and look forward to future visits.

Take care, get well, and come back and see us!

Got the Webley holster I ordered from Doug Kidd.  It's in good condition, the color is very close to that of the web gear I have, and it looks like I can make enough of a modification (like add a metal toe cap) that it will do until I come up with a better idea.

The fit is tight but doable.  The biggest issue is the metal wire attachment is wrong.  Got to think about that one a bit.

Looks like we're on the right path, though.   :)

I had a reproduction holster (the entire gun belt for that matter) made for my 1909 through Coon creek.  It matches the original holster that came with the pistol exactly.  Buck doesn't list this item on his web site or the rig he had made for my 1895 DA 38 but he can get them for you if you ask.
