Never saw a piece with a painted-on date before.

Wonder if it's an effective sales tool.

Looks like the numbers are copper to me ??? That's a good site and if ya email the shop owners about something you like and make a decent offer most of the time they will take it.When things are tough antique stores will deal alot cuase they have to pay rent to the shop owners.I used to have a booth in one and when gas prices went up it killed me.I did it for something to do becuase of my leg,but it wore me down in that area too.Always ask for at least ten percent off before ya buy.The price on that knife is a good deal in my opinion,but i ain't no pro either like you guys..

A knife like this one would likely be carried in the saddlebag - unless the owner was a Farrier or Blacksmith by trade and had a more immediate need.

Not as useful as the multi-bladed hoof knife discussed on a different thread, but a handy tool, nonetheless.

I had something similar to the other one you refer to,gave it to a guy in Texas from the sass wire,it was a newer model though.
