Seriously, lack of sleep is one of the leading cause of stress and illness.
If you feel tired all the time, then likely, you are tired!  Somehow we have been able to function on 6 or fewer hours of sleep per night, but we don't really thrive on that.

Otherwise, I don't know.. Tony T would be the real expert!  Hope you get to feeling better.
Adios,

It's called a pillow. ;)

I usually only am able to sleep about 5 hours a night. This started when I was about 53....
I can nap sometimes for an hour later in the day.
Last night I had a headache and backache and went to bed about 7.30.... woke up at 0420 this mornin', still tired.

Hopefully Tony will drop by...
I am one of those lucky ones who sleeps well (course, I ain't crossed 53's threshold yet) but I do hear that Melatonin is good for sleep regulation.

Have you thought that perhaps it is time for a new matress?  Also, if you snore or have sleep apnea can cause you to feel tired and listless. Sometimes a good walk in the sunshine will help. Depending where you live when the days get shorter and more dreay we tend to get more tired.
I don't mean to advertise here but we got one of those Comfort Select beds and have not awakened with back aches and pains. They are a bit pricey, but it was well worth the money for us.

Uh, first things first!!!!!

See yer Sawbones! Before you go off chasing the illusive "feel better" solutions of the "do it yerself" health care world, see an xpert fer cryin out loud! There may be an actual medical reason yer feelin' poorly and can't sleep! Might/could be one of them there syckological things too 'n a haid shrinker may be of assistance. (I ain't got much use fer em, but oncet in a great while they can actually help a pard)

If, on the other hand, yer jist wantin' ta make conversation: I've found that about a half bottle of good scotch will help a pard sleep much better, no matter wat the situation is! :o ;D :o ;)

Scarlet makes an excellent point about sleep apnea.  That's the way that I was.

It ain't what time ya go to bed that matters Sleep  ;)

Seriously, me thinks the human being (in which category I will be generous and assume you fit) is ment to be hibernatin this time of year.

What helps me, if I ain't werkin in the shop, is to get some serious EXERCISE (doncha hate that werd!) in the evening. Go fer a walk, chase the wife 'round the house, or (if ya live whar I do) take the exercise bike fer a spin and have a shower a'fore'n ya hit the sheets.

It's not what time you go to bed or how many hours of sleep you get, in part its the quality of the rest you are getting.  Any number of reasons could account for the problem seeing your sawbones is the first step in tha right direction, although consumption of the alcoholic beverage of your choice won't necessarily make you sleep better, at least you won't really care about it! ;D

I recently got a new mattress.  That helped a tremendous amount!  Got one of them fancy sleep number beds.  Turns out my wife and I like the same setting.

But we're both sleeping much better, and feeling better as a result.

Tensleep,

Tell your doctor, I was doing the same thing and could go to sleep just about anywhere, did end up having sleep apnea and have been doing much better after they found it.  Much more energy and a better attitude.  Go see the doctor.

What the other folks have said, the doctor is a good place to start. Not getting good rest can be a real strain on the old ticker, just like running a marathon in your sleep. Once you get a handle on why, the cure might be very simple.

Sleep apnea damn near killed me.  I was tired all of the time.  Couldn't stay awake to drive.  Couldn't figure out why I was so tired when I'd sleep 5 hrs at a hitch.  Snored too.

I went through a bout of chronic fatigue which I thought was due to apnea and such.  Turned out I had cytomegalovirus.  A common bug in 80 percent of the population.  A few of us unlucky one's pick up an active bug.  Darned thang knocked me on my butt for a month, no fever or cold symptoms, just acute fatigue.  Good thing I went to see my doc.  Others have suggested it already and think it's a good place to start.  :)

My average is 5 1/2 to 6 hours per night and have time during the day to take a nap.  If the wife don't wake me up, the nap can go for 2 to 3 hours. ;D

I have a bad back and much of my energy goes towards pain management.  Some fatigue in the afternoons is normal for me.  Thus, a 1 hour nap helps to relax my back, rewind from stress, catch up on a good book and gets me refreshed for when Mel gets home from preschool.  :o ;D
