Grip Woes
« on: February 18, 2016, 07:49:31 PM »
I bought a set of "Uberti 51" grips form Dixie Gun Works this week and am beyond disappointed. I usually fit new grips myself by cutting these one piece sets in two and then fitting a new glued in spacer before doing the final fitting, sanding & finish. Saves lots of time as opposed to making a set from scratch.

Anyway, I have never seen a set from Uberti like this one before!! Three big issues:

1.  if this wood is walnut then Pettifigger is my uncle  ::)   ;)

2.  they had a huge dent in the critical area where they meet the frame that is too deep to sand out.

3.  they have some goofy type of router pattern on each one.  ???

Here's the huge dent:

I called DGW and the woman said to ship them back, but they had no more. She swore up & down these were made by Uberti, but I think someone in Purchasing did otherwise.  ;)

Those ain't Uberti.  Unless Uberti has really gone WAY down hill.

I have yet to be convinced Uberti standard are were they use to be. They look as if they were made in India. ???

Yes Major, those are the ones I have used in the past. I always wondered why they have the funky inletting at the top and my woodsmith friend said that's probably where they clamp them at the factory to cut & rout them.

I have noticed as well that the price has increased on these. Where do you get yours from?

I'd have already shipped those back to Dixie.  Ugh.  Not even good kindling.
