.44 Caliber question

I own a Super Blackhawk new out of the box and I'm curious. I've fired this gun before and I've been doing some research yet I'm still not sure. I've read that revolvers chambered in .44 Magnum will except .44 Special, and .44 Russian. But I'm still wondering if I can fire .44 Colt cartridges with this revolver. Has anyone had any luck in this area?

I don't have a loading book handy. 
But you ought to be able to look at the SAAMI specs & see if the dimensions will allow it. 
I sorta recollect the rims might be larger in diameter & thickness.

Modern .44 Russian and .44 Colt are all based on the .44 Special.  The only family difference is the Colt rim is a little smaller than a Russian, Special or Magnum, but it will work fine in a single action.

I shoot my 44 Colt cartridges in my Model 629 Smith without problems. The rim is a little smaller on the Colt and one must be careful when ejecting the brass from the cylinder.

Of course, the smaller rim is only a problem in double action revolvers, where the skinnier rim might slip past the ejector star.  In a Colt's style revolver (Ruger's, etc.) the rim just holds the cartridge and ejection is by means of the rod running down the inside of the brass.

Ironically, the original .45 Long Colt cartridges (military) were of folded head construction and the rims so skinny that no maker would chamber a rifle in .45 LC because of the lack of purchase of the extractor on the narrow rim!
