The Winchester Model 1876 / Re: Load Data for the 40/60
« Last post by Boone May on May 12, 2024, 01:06:50 PM »
Well obviously I’m too old and senile to be posting here much less fooling with primers and powder
Tried to pose a question regarding a suggestion in Venturinos “Lever Guns” but I put it on the 45-60 site….(sigh)
To get to the point:
He mentions shortening 45-70 dies to use reloading the 45-60
If this works then is the same course of action possible: using shortened 40-65 dies with the 40-60…
45-70 shortened for 45-60 reloading IAW Venturino
40-65 shortened for 40-60?
Thanks……..
I don't see why you couldn't use Starline .40-65 brass as a basis for .40-60 WCF cases.  The .40-65 WCF (also known as .40-60 Marlin) was based on a necked down .45-70 case.  I never had to do this as I had a bunch of resized and shortened .40-60 WCF cases made by Buffalo Arms.  Give it a try and let us know results.

Same here, got things to do, important things, but not sure if I want whole wheat or some sort of rye. ;D

Real bread, not that Yuppie Artisan stuff full of holes like Swiss cheese, a crack as big as the San Andres fault and little flowers drawn on it. ::)

You will see where 3f 777 is not recommended for cartridges This is because a full case of 3f  in the 45 Colt will exceed SAMMI spec for that cartridge. Then again so will a case of 3f OE or Swiss.  I like using such powders in cases like the 38s, 44 Russian, 45 CS etc.

Oopsies.  I neglected your original question.  I honestly don't know.  Whenever I worked on '92s I simply worked on the OEM parts.  I never tried swapping between manufacturers.  I will say, to most outward appearances, everybody copies the original '92 fairly closely.  It doesn't take much for something to NOT FIT however.

Steve at Stevesgunz would be a much better source.  If he doesn't know, nobody does.

I suppose you can add me to the list.  About 2008 I dropped in at EMF and was just visiting with Grn'l Grant, when he up and offered me one of theh last rifles he received from Uberti in 45 Colt as I had one of the 1st five 45 Colt rifles imported into the US thu him. So I became the proud owner of a Steel Framed 1860.  I'm now waiting on a Carbine length Steel Frame 1860.

HAPPY SUNDAY??

Tiz 48 Balmy degrees in this end of the swamp.  Gonna warm up to a blistering maybe 57.  Be cloudy all day.

Making some Wonderous French Toast for Brunch.  Then it's down to the Munitions Fabrik to craft up goodies for the up-coming matches.  Hope to be able to shoot real soon.  Stay Tuna
