A Book About Movies
« on: June 02, 2012, 09:45:54 AM »
This post takes in both categories—books and movies.

I recommend the book Stagecoach to Tombstone by Howard Hughes (not that Howard Hughes).  It gives background information, overviews and insights into a bunch of our favorite westerns.  I’ve seen most of these movies before, but I learned things I didn’t know.  It makes me appreciate the ones I’ve seen and it gave recommendations for some westerns I hadn’t seen.  The book isn’t earth-shattering, but it is useful.  If you’re having trouble finding it, the full title is The Filmgoers’ Guide to the Great Westerns: Stagecoach to Tombstone.

Are there other books about movies you’d recommend?

I've got a tome entitled "Shoot-Em-Ups" by Les Adams & Buck Rainey. It covers the genre from 1903 to 1977. If it was a "Duster", it's covered by this book. Lots of hitherto unpublished photos as well.

If anyone has a question about who played a role in a particular movie within the purview of the book, let me know.

I don't do these things to others and I require the same from them."  John Wayne
