Transition Henry ?
« on: April 24, 2009, 03:51:53 PM »
Has anyone here ever modified their Henry to look like one of the late Henrys right before and maybe after the '66 was introduced? I think that could be a neat project.

Wow, guess they haven't been resting on their laurels over in Italy. Even a niche rifle is now offered. No only if someone would offer a new made hammer SxS with long barrels.

See, Ask and ye shall receive.

Now, if some one would just make some stainless steel Colts, I'd be a happy camper.

Ok, how about a .45-70 Gatling kit ready to assemble, complete with carraige. ;D And under $2000 would be outstanding. :o

Agreed Doc, it's definitely a fantasy. Actually I wish they would just make the '66 and '73 in the first or second model configurations instead of the final late versions of each. Wouldn't be that hard to alter their existing programs for their CNCs.

Actually Doc, if I could ever get my hands on a decent mill, I would attempt to buidl one from scratch and GM barrels. It would be hard, but could be a very fun project. Unfortunately the Lil Esposa won't agree for me to spend that much for a toy.

I too have often thought about doing one.  I'm sure working drawings are available somewhere.  I'm just not sure if there would be any legal problems with the BATF.

Last I checked, unless it was hooked up to a motor it was considered semi-auto. But that was back in slightly more gun friendly times.

One of those little .22LR Gatlings would be fun, too.  Sure as heck could shoot it a lot more  ;D

The Uberti '66 has too much machining to make into a proper early "flatside" '66, however it could be done on a Henry receiver. The big drawback is the cost as you would basically need two guns to make one, i.e., Henry frame & everything else off a '66. This is all of course if you want to do it yourself.

So what you are saying is there could be less machining because they would just need to make the '66 on Henry frames instead of making seperate frames for each. That would be an even easier fix than the '73.

I saw a video of a guy that had wo m1 carbines with 30 rounders hooked into a gatling gizmo on a tripod with a single crank.  It was amazing.  It took about 20 seconds to empty them.

The most troublesome part is that on the early "flatside" '66 models the screw holding the loading gate is exactly above the other screw.

How about a side by side comparison? Seven or eight years ago there was an article in the NCOWS magazine the Shootist, where a guy modified his '66 to the early configuration by reshaping the hump in front of the hammer to the Henry shape.

PS,  Thanks for getting the post back on topic.
