HP Sauce
Since circa 1895 its first offering on British dinner tables.
Not as common as A1's in steak restaurants, because is HP & Heinz 57 costlier , but if you ask some better places have it.
HP is made with
Tomatoes, malt vinegar (from barley), molasses, glucose-fructose syrup, spirit vinegar, sugar, dates, modified cornflour, rye flour, salt, spices, flavoring,
Tamarind. Contains: Gluten Barley and Rye.
Tamarind fruit (a pod) from a tree grown in the tropics ...tasty stuff
( also in Heinz 57 )
A1's on the other hand is made with:
Tomato Puree (Water, Tomato Paste), Vinegar, Corn Syrup, Salt, Raisin Paste, Crushed Orange Puree, Spice, Dried Garlic, Caramel Color, Dried Onions, Potassium Sorbate (to Preserve Freshness), Xanthan Gum, Celery Seed.
and as Del pointed out..no longer has Anchovies ...
thanks for the coffee, please pass the Bangers and mash.
