Ruger Old Army, 5.5", Blued
« on: February 18, 2007, 12:45:23 PM »
I bought one of the 5.5" Old Armys and I must say, I'm rather impressed. The seams are mated perfectly, the finish is a nice low-gloss blue, and the action is smooth out of the box. Though weighty, it balances perfectly and soaks up recoil well. When you hold it in your hands you feel its power, and the Old West comes alive again and beckons you to come and tame its wilds. My gunsmith is replacing the stock hammer spring with a lighter one for use with a Kirst cylinder, and he's also doing an action job and will chamfer the forcing cone. I like the stainless ones too, but carbon steel seems to machine/cast better.

I love this gun 'cause it has the old three-screw frame, a half-cock notch, and no transfer bar. A Colt, a Rogers & Spencer, and a Remington all in one.
