Autry Museum
« on: April 16, 2009, 04:10:12 PM »
Howdy All
Went to the Autry Museum last night for a Members Only opening of the new exhibit. Cool stuff. It's Marty Stewart's country music
history. Lots of bling from Nudie the Rodeo Talior. Some very cool leather work also.
Here is a link to some of the pix. I will be adding more pix from the other exhibits later.

Howdy WC,

Nice pictures, I can remember Nudie running around in that car, he was quit a guy, Afonso Penada was right across the street on Lankershim Blvd, from Nudie back in the 60's, I would always make a stop at both when in the area, spent good money at both places too.

That's a dang nice looking shirt you have on there WC, in fact you look like you're ready for the trail, just need your guns.  ::) 8)

Thanks for putting these pictures up, they really bring back the memories  ::) :o 8) :D

                                                               tEN wOLVES  ;) :D ;D

Thanks for those pics, WC.

Most pards will know this already but the Autry Museum has the J. S. Collins holster made for Teddy Roosevelt together with his engraved Peacemaker - the same one shown in the famous photograph in which he's wearing it crossdraw on a Mills belt. A beautiful holster. Buck Stinson and Jake Johnson both do fine reproductions of it.

I grew up on the No. Hollywood/Burbank border and used to love riding my bike past Nudie's. He always had the Caddy with the silver dollars on it parked out front on Lankershim. Good memories.

Very cool pics, WC. Thanks for sharing the experience with those of us that couldn't visit. I would love to make a leather cover for my Tlele, I've seen it done a number of times. but I know I don't posses the skills yet.

The new exhibit is Marty Stuart's (sorry spelled it wrong in first post) history in country music.

Thanks for the pics WC.

Brings back memories of going to the Roy Rodgers Museum before they moved it out of the WEST.

Nice Holster and Gun and would you love to have grips like that on your gun?

Wow! That cowboy bling!

Breathtaking! It'd take more nerve than I've got to wear that purple-orange-white shirt. Whew!

(But that carving on Gene's valise - not bad, huh?)

WC - thanks.

Teddy Roosevelt's holster is unusual in having two  rows of stitching running down the main seam. (It's a lined holster.) I haven't seen another example of that.
