Larry Joe Rash, 79, of Cherryvale, Kansas and Moline, Kansas, passed away unexpectedly on March 25, 2022 at Freeman West Hospital in Joplin, Missouri.  He was born February 26, 1943 in Cherryvale, Kansas to Lloyd Lollar and Mary Louise (VanCleave) Rash.

Larry graduated from high school in Cherryvale in 1960 and attended Independence Community College in Independence, Kansas where he played football for one year.  He worked at Heartland Cement Plant in Independence for many years, and after retiring from the cement plant, he went back and completed his Associates Degree at Independence Community College.  During his retirement years, he could be found on his farm tending to his horses and cattle.  Oftentimes, he could also be found at the Alcoholics Anonymous Hall, being the biggest supporter to people who were going through tough times and seeking sobriety. 

On August 9, 1977, Larry was united in marriage to Janet J. Hogan.  She survives at their home.  Larry enjoyed his horses, cattle, coyote hunting, and deer hunting.  He biggest enjoyment in life was spending time with his grandchildren and teaching them about his farm.  His love for his family was very strong and unconditional.

Larry is survived by his wife, Janet; his children, Terri Rash of Coffeyville, Kansas, Christy Ballinger of Cherryvale, Kansas, Rae Lynn Rash of Cherryvale, Kansas, Michael (Venessa) Hogan of Moline, Kansas, and Justin (Tabitha) Hogan of Winfield, Kansas; and his siblings, Jerry Rash of Augusta, Kansas, Jon (Debie) Rash of Cherryvale, Kansas, Jack (Debbie) Rash of Cherryvale, Kansas, Bill (Cheryl) Rash of Independence, Kansas, Bruce (Jenny) Rash of Athens, Tennessee, Jayne (Frank) Knight of Cherryvale, Kansas, and Marlene (Rex) Poole of St. Mary's, Kansas. Grandchildren include Mariah Ballinger, Madison Ballinger, Jermaine Williams, Ashilyn Rash, Cooper Mayberry, Haley Hogan, Ethan Hogan, Baylee Hogan, James Hogan, Amelia Hogan, Annabel Hogan along with great-granddaughter, Ada Williams.  He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Wilma (Jim) Bell of Moline, Kansas and brother-in-law, J.L. Tunison of Moline, Kansas and many nieces and nephews that he treated as if they were his own.  Larry is preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Jim Rash, and his daughter, Sherri Rash.

Celebration of Life Services for Larry will be held on Friday, April 1, 2022 at Wickham Family Funeral Home, 216 E. 4th Street, Cherryvale, Kansas.  The family will receive friends on Thursday, March 31, 2022 at the funeral home from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.  Memorial remembrances are suggested to St. Jude's Children's Hospital or Shriner's Hospital for Children and may be left with or mailed to the funeral home.
