Max Ormand Hileman, age 80, of Wichita, Kansas and formerly of Howard, Kansas, passed away on September 14, 2020 at his home.  He was born on October 12, 1939 in Fiat, Elk County, Kansas to Ivory "Boots' and Ida Marie (Coon) Hileman.

Max grew up in Elk County alongside two siblings, Jack and Bette.  He graduated from Howard High School in 1957.  On June 5, 1960, he was united in marriage to Denola Croney in Howard.  They were married for 30 years until her passing in 1990.  Max later married Edith Horton on February 11, 1991.  She survives of the home.

Max had several hobbies.  He liked to hunt and fish, ride motorcycles, and watch old western movies.  He also enjoyed watching Bat Masterson on METV.  He also attended auctioneering school in his younger years.  Max worked at Cessna Aircraft in Wichita, retiring after 34 years.  He spent most of his life in Elk County.  As his health declined, he moved to Wichita to be closer to his doctors.

Max is survived by his wife, Edith; his children, Cindy (Jeff) Tarr of Emporia, Kansas and Curtis (Julia) Hileman of Fort Myers, Florida; his stepchildren, Rhonda (Ray) Scales of McCune, Kansas, Ruth Scales of Parsons, Kansas, and Rodney Horton of Wichita, Kansas; 14 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Boots and Marie Hileman; his first wife, Denola; his siblings, Jack Hileman and Bette Goff; 2 great-grandsons, Tyler and Jeffrey Jordan; and 2 stepsons, Randy Schaible and Roger Horton.

Graveside services will be held on Friday, September 18, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. at Grace Lawn Cemetery in Howard, Kansas.  Memorial contributions may be made in Max's name to the American Heart Association and can be mailed to or left with the funeral home.  Services have been entrusted to Countryside Funeral Home, 206 E. Washington, Howard, Kansas 67349.
