Hazel L. Newton, 98 of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Thursday, October 3, 2013 at Good Samaritan Society in Winfield, Kansas.  Born on November 24, 1914 in Grenola, Kansas, she was the daughter of Ira and Ann (Mayer) Underwood.

Hazel was born and raised in Grenola, Kansas.  She was united in marriage to Herman Pete Newton on July 14, 1934 in Sedan, Kansas.  She was employed at William Newton Memorial Hospital in Winfield from 1970 to 1979 in the Housekeeping Department.

She attended the First Assembly of God Church in Winfield for several years and was a  member of the Ladies Auxiliary at William Newton Memorial Hospital.  She enjoyed yardwork, flowers, fishing, and cooking for family gatherings.

Her family includes her sister, Freda Underwood of Winfield, Kansas.  She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Pete; 2 brothers; and 5 sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, October 8, 2013 at Miles Funeral Service, 4001 E. 9th Avenue, Winfield, Kansas 67156.  Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery.  A memorial has been established in Hazel's name for the Good Samaritan Society.  Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
