Lester LeRoy Powers, 88, retired Coleman Company employee, died Tuesday, January 26, 2010. Mr. Powers was born on July 13, 1921 on a farm near Piedmont, Kansas to Chester and Bessie Powers.
On May 1, 1942, he married Anita Jewel Leo. Lester was a student of the Bible. He was always ready to share his faith. He taught Sunday School at two churches. He taught all ages--adults, youth, and children.
Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Anita (Leo) Powers; daughters, Helen J. Tate of Wichita, Kansas, Louise (Greg) Swanson of Whitewater, Wisconsin, and Karen (Glenn) Crump of Natalia, Texas; brothers, Paul (Delva) Powers of Wichita, Kansas and Noel (Delores) Powers of Cocoa, Florida; a brother-in-law, Frank (Barbara) Leo; 5 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, Chester and Bessie Powers; brothers, Dale and Bennie; sister, Velda; grandson, Brian White; and mother-in-law, Rose Nix Leo.
A visitation with family present will be held Friday evening, January 29, 2010, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Broadway Mortuary Chapel, 1147 S. Broadway, Wichita, Kansas. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 30, 2010 at Broadway Mortuary Chapel. Burial will follow at Piedmont Cemetery, Piedmont, Kansas at 12:15 p.m. on Saturday.
Memorials have been established with the Salvation Army, 350 N. Market, Wichita, KS 67202 and Central Community Church, 6100 W. Maple, Wichita, KS 67209.
