Title: Howard Santa Fe RR Depot
Post by: W. Gray on January 28, 2010, 01:29:27 PM

This is the Howard Depot that was built around 1907 to replace the burned depot. It appears to be much smaller than the original.

It was apparently just unceremoniously torn down sometime after Santa Fe abandoned the Howard Branch in 1975.

The Benson Museum has a desk at the front entrance from this depot.

From time to time there are postcards featuring this depot offered on various web sites.

Is there any building in Howard that did not burn at least once??

The school is the only one I can think of off hand.

Who needs building codes we have not needed then since the 1870's why would we need them ever?

I know this is off topic, but considering what Kansas just did about any sprinkler ordinances, most of Kansas must agree with that. Who needs safety codes?
