Title: Moline and Severy buildings will be closed for the next school year.
Post by: pepelect on January 11, 2010, 10:44:46 PM
The school board voted to close the Severy and Moline school buildings next year.  The budget for the next several years doesn't not support redundant services.  Such as lunch, staff and building maintenance.   The vote was 4-3 with Walker, Hare, and Wolfe opposed.

Modulars were discussed.  The board will develop a 12 member committee to figure out location and recommendations will be presented to the board.  The members will be 3 board members, 6 faculty members, and 3 parents.  The board members are Bellar, Hare, and Walker.

Tough night to be a school board member.

This was a decision that didn't make anyone happy, but as we all know, you can't ignore the financial aspect in any situation whether it's government, school, church, business ... or personal.

Anyone who has ever gone broke, as I have once, empathizes with those trapped on stage last night.

Bless 'em all. Pulling together will now be the challenge, and everyone knows how difficult that will be.

This is the right time for everyone in this district to bond together and remember what is going to be the best solution for the kids of USD 282 and the longevity of the area school.  Times are tough for school districts all over the state and surrounding states, and all taxpayers may not always agree with every decision made, BUT think of the alternative of losing that school.  There is never going to be one PERFECT solution in these types of situations.   I commend the school board for making  a tough decision and having to personally deal with unhappy patrons.  The overall picture has to be considered, and in the end, our students will WIN.
