Title: TO ALL FOURM MEMBERS
Post by: Varmit on October 11, 2009, 07:07:25 AM
Folks, the personal attacks and name calling needs to stop.  I understand and agree with alot of it however it does nothing but drag a discussion down.  Opinions on a subject are one thing and are welcome, opinions about individual members should be kept to yourself.   If they can't then at least try to be a little more diplomatic about it.  For example, when I was in the Army and a cherry LT. would say or suggest something stupid, we wouldn't call him a moron, we would say something along the lines of, "Sir, it is obvious you need some more training in this area."

Seriously though, try and keep your posts a little more civil.

........So has spoken the Great Moderator..............

Why do you insist that Anmar is a she? Is that supposed to be funny? Perhaps we should call you a "she" too, since "Warph" is gender neutral.

You know Diane, the more I think about it, maybe Warph is a she.  Doesn't that look like a 'lap' Chihuahua on her icon image.

CAUTION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!   THERE WILL BE NO, NONE, NADA, COMMENTS ABOUT CHIHUAHUA'S ALLOWED HERE. MY POMCHI WAS OFFENDED BY THIS LATEST POST AND I WAS TYPING A HUMEROUS, YET NECESSARY, RESPONSE TO ANOTHER THREAD, WHEN HE BECAME AGITATED AND STEPPED ON THE ESCAPE KEY OBLITERATING EVERYTHING I HAD TYPED.

BESIDES, I think it looks more like a Shepard or malamute, something bigger.

Regarding the canine caricature in question: The snout doesn't follow form, but the ears strongly resemble the Corgi breed, favorite of the Queen Mum. Do you suppose when Warph is referring to tee time, he actually means "tea" time? Golf is a Scottish pastime, after all. But it's unlikely either Welsh or Pembrokes would appear under a Spanish slogan inciting or celebrating "revolucion" -- unless, of course, the 19th hole doesn't make allowances for "walkies."

Yes Warph, calling a forum member an idiot is a bit out of line, as is making references to his or her gender.  I understand your frustration with certain members.

As to the chihuahua prohibition, that is hereby repealed.  The afore mentioned canine wannabe does not constitute an actual dog and any and all derogatory comments will be allowed and welcome.  However, any such comments made in regards to a canine measuring at least 12 inches at the shoulder will be shunned, deleted, and met with extereme hostility and the maker of said comment will be subject to the same.

I want to say, Mom, mother, mommy dearest, I will stop calling names to public officials whenever they become members of this forum. I take that back, I MAY stop calling names to public officials. But as they are a "public official" and are scrutinized by every person who put them in office, under the freedom of speech amendment I declare my independence from Varmint the Moderator where a public official is concerned and reserve the RIGHT to call them as I see them....

Sadly that kind of wit disguised as humor is greatly lacking in today's political diatribes.  Today, very few will 'think' long enough to get the message if it's within a two minute soliloquy.

The Pomchi, R.A.M.B.O., is again offended by the reference that he is not a real dog.  He is beside himself as to how to respond to the posts denegrating his breed.  He has asked me, his caretaker, to post the following memo to the Moderator:

I HAVE BEEN INSULTED BY YOUR INSINUATIONS ABOUT THE "REALNESS" OF ME BEING A DOG.  I HAVE SAT WITH MY OWNER WHILE HE PERUSES THE FORUM, QUIETLY SNOOZING.  AND, WHILE I AGREE WITH MOST OF YOUR POSTS, I WILL POINT OUT THIS ONE LITTLE TINY PROBLEM I HAVE WITH THIS THREAD:

IT IS "FORUM", NOT "FOURM!!!!![/color]

Teresa, I pray you will get well soon.  I approve of your plan to beat whatever you have.  There is nothing better than a good diet and plenty of rest.  Staying hydrated is important so be sure to drink plenty of fluids, but not alcohol unfortunately.  In the past, I have tried to kill whatever I had with a steady influx of Gin and Tonics.  It didn't work, but then after a few of those, I didn't care!!!!!

I agree that Varmit is doing a good job and I appreciate his posts a lot.  He will even be better once he gets his spellchecker fixed.

Now flint.... that was just plain mean... ( but I did manage to escape the water.. how did you know?  ;D)

I ate a good supper and gulped my vitamins and worked on bills etc.. then I felt so revived I decided to go out tonight in the beautiful night of drizzle and  I walked 4 miles. Plugged in my I-Pod and Trace Adkins sang to me the whole time. Now believe me.. THAT voice will help anyone get well fast..  ;)  I can actually even squeak out a loud whisper now.. By morning I just know I will have my voice back..
((( I wonder why every time I say that I hear Kjell start to cry))).. poor man.. 3 days of blissful silence..soon to be a thing of the past.

Yeah, I was gonna ask but I'm not there so I don't know if she is walking in the rain or not.  Keeping the body warm is important also.  I think "rest" was  a keyword here, wasn't it?  STAY IN BED, GET REST!

My doc told me to walk, too, to make the baby drop more.  But out in this cold, I'm afraid she'd jump back up under my rib cage to stay warm!  Weatherbug says 46 degrees!  And drizzle to top it off.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news here this morning, ladies.  While I admire your ambition and insights on "fresh air", I am pasting this from Wikipedia.  The question was about going out into the cold with wet hair which doesn't apply here, but the rest of the answer does.  You both are correct about getting fresh air, but don't subject the whole body to the cold.  If you want fresh air, open a window and breathe it for a few minutes.  See paste below.

The common cold is a virus. It is caught and spread by the transfer of bacteria. Cold temperatures can actually help prevent colds by weakening airborne bacteria. What CAN make you more prone to illness, is tiring or weakening your body, which makes it harder to fight infection. Becoming cold to the point of shivering will lower body temperature, which can lower your immune system - this is another contributor to catching viruses. Humans lose heat rapidly through their head, which is a process that would accelerate with wet hair - if you let yourself get chilled to the point of shivering, or worse, to the point when shivering stops, you would lower your immune system and therefore be more likely to catch a cold. So, having wet hair and being in cold air alone wont make you sick, but letting your self get overly chilled and/or tired might.

We could probably start a whole new thread on this or move it to the health thread, but I just wanted you to know about the effects of lowering your body temperature by being outside in the cold when you are sick.  OR, like my mama said, "you are sick, go to bed, and stay there.  If you go outside, you will only get sicker.  Don't come crying to me when you can't get well because you went outside to play when I told you to stay in bed."  At least, I think that is what she said!

LOL Larry. I don't mean run out nekkid and roll in the snow lol!!!!! I truly think central heat and central air are two of the worst things in the world for you, I like air conditionin as much as the next person but I'm out in the heat a lot too, I think it helps you stay healthier if you stay acclimated to the season so to speak, but that's just me. I don't get sick very often tho (knock on wood :P)

He accepts your apology and was never really upset.  He values the past service of a veteran and could never really be upset.

However, he informs me that he has sworn off meat and going on a strict vegan diet.  So don't send the jerky as it will just go to waste.  Hee Hee, now he is telling me he would rather see it go to your "waist".  Dog has a sense of humor!

thanks anyhow

I do believe that R.A.M.B.O. has had a change of heart as well as a change of diet.  After having a vegan lunch, he was willing to discuss changing his mind about eating meat.  Last night, he reverted back to his old ways and had a regular meal.  This consists of dry dog food (for the teeth) and canned cat food (recommended by the Vet because it is better for the dog) and he seemed to be happy with his meal.  Therefore, he is now officially back to a regular diet.  He feels that being a strong and ferocious canine requires meat in the diet and stays within the guidelines of dogdom.

However, he still does not want the deer jerky!

LarryJ, has B.A.M.B.. ;D..I mean R.A.M.B.O tried the deer jerky?

By the way, the best diet a dog can have is a B.A.R.F diet.  Thats Bones And Raw Food.  Vension is a big part of my dogs diet, as is tripe, rice, and rabbit.

Be careful, Billy, R.A.M.B.O. is very sensitive towards any misinterpretations of the spelling of his name.  When I read your post to him, his comment was "who does he think he is talking to?"  I've managed to calm him down for now, but I would suggest you not insult his name or breed or any bad dog jokes.

B.A.R.F.  diet?  No bones for R.A.M.B.O.  Most bones are bigger than he is, even chicken wings.  He says, and I quote:  B.A.R.F. diet?  Is that the end result after eating such a diet?  (His words not mine)

Larry, I have a quite elderly chihuahua named Minnie Jane. She is going on 17 years old, and loves venison. It seems to agree with her as it is low in fat, and you know what liver problems Chihuahuas have if they eat too much fat. I usually do mix with rice as this helps them with their elderly tummies.

SDM; I'm assuming that you actually HAVE six dogs?  Do each of them require a special diet?
Title: Re: TO ALL FOURM MEMBERS
Post by: larryJ on October 16, 2009, 04:31:37 PM
We have had this dog for about five weeks now.  The initial visit to the Vet was quite informative.  We have had dogs before----larger dogs such as the cocker spaniels and a springer spaniel, a wiener dog, a poodle, and another chi.  All have passed on to doggie heaven.  This one was a spur of the moment thought and is proving to be a lot of fun.  He is the most affectionate dog I have ever been around.  He has two speeds, full blast and dead asleep.  We are going with the diet that the Vet has told us to go with as long as he is a puppy.   The dry dog food is good for his teeth and lots of protein and the canned cat food is lower in fat than canned dog food.  There is not a lot of deer meat available here so I probably won't try it, although they do sell venison in the store.  Thanks to all of you for your suggestions.

No, Tobina, I don't have six dogs. In truth, I have seven!  :D I cook meat and rice together and serve with canned dogfood in the evening. They have dry dogfood available 24/7, and first thing in the morning they get 2 pieces of balogna divided among them piece by piece. They all line up in the kitchen, the largest gets a big piece, and so on until we have made several rounds. Then my coffee, the forum, and after I am finished upstairs, it is time for chicken or lean pork. Each gets a share, some more that the others, depending on their weight, most are too fat according to Dr. Julie, but some of the older ones need a little more nutrition to hold their weight. I have two dogs that are over 17 and two that are over 16, so I keep a pretty good watch on their diet, trying to keep them healthy as long as possible.

BTW, lest you think me crazy with all these dogs, when Ted and I got married, he had two dogs, and I had two. And before we married I told him about my promise to my dad made before he passed away. He wanted me to take care of his 'boys' in case anything happened. Ted said that if we were crazy enough to have four dogs, then six wasn't gonna make much difference. When my Mama passed in 2002, we ended up with two more. A few years back, when a lady here in Moline was given an auction to help pay some of her cancer treatment bills, somebody donated three little Italian Greyhounds. She ended up with one of them, and just couldn't handle a puppy, so they gave him to us. He is a total joy, so loving, and lots of fun. If you think I am crazy, I guess I am a little anyway. Wouldn't have it any other way!  ;)

Having an extra minute or two this morning, I googled the icon/poster under Warph's name and, YES!!!!  indeed, it is a chihuahua.  The poster can be had at many websites for about $8.  If you really want one.  I mean, if you have a bare wall that needs something like this.  I personally think it is pretty neat.  Reminds me of the olden days when we used to put posters on every single inch of wall space.
