We've been talkin about what books we like so wondered what TV shows yall are hooked on besides DWTS! Me, I always watch The Cleaner, Sons of Anarchy, Diners Drive-Ins and Dives, Black Gold and Axe Men... Watch the DIY channel too like Rock Solid and the landscapin shows.
I just finished "America's Got Talent" last week and started the new season of "Survivor". I'm also looking forward to "Amazing Race" next week. The new medical show on NBC that might take the place of ER looks like fun, too. Oh, I also started taping "Army Wives". College football takes high precedence at our house this time of year, followed by college basketball.
My absolute favorite is NCIS. Other than that I tend to watch more History Channel than anything else.
I enjoy reality shows - most of which I tape and then watch in the evening. If I don't get around to watching them within a week, it's too bad and I tape over them.
Wheel of Fortune - every day. Jim and I watch it together
Chopped - off Food Network. I like the idea of being given a bunch of food and having to cook with it. Seems like I used to do that all the time when the kids were home.
The Next Design Star, the Next Food Network Star - both of these are enjoyable to me.
On the major networks - I enjoy "So You Think You Can Dance" and the current "Dancing with the Stars." I also like "American Idol." Haven't really gotten into the "America's Got Talent" show.
And then there are the sports games - which really trump everything. During football and baseball season, there's always one going on in the background. Those we watch live. They're a can't miss.
Also watch Gray's Anatomy and Private Practice. Sometimes tape those to watch later, but if we miss them, that's okay.
PBS, most anything. The History Channel ( Naked Archaeologist in particular) The Discovery Channels, Thornwood, Eastenders, NCIS, CSI, all the Law and Orders, House, Psch, Royal Pains, Monk, Numbers, Survivor, The Amazing Race, Jay Leno and movies too. HBO, ENCORE, SHOWTIME, Dexter,The Tudors and some football.
I'm is good company with Jensarlou and Diane, I love NCIS, followed by the Law and Order shows, CSI: wherever, and House.
PROGRAMMING NOTE:::::: I have heard and will make sure, but there will be a story about the Chandler Family and their history with the Los Angeles Times on PBS October 5. I knew Otis Chandler when I worked there and I am sure it will be an interesting story.
Larryj
NCIS is good I had never watched it till recently. Law and Order Criminal Intent is one of my favorites too,I like the character played by Vincent D'Onofrio. I used to watch Survivor but it's got kinda the same ol "all the beautiful people" instead of real people :P the last one I watched all the way thru was when Rupert Boneham was on it :) I just loved that guy Lol
well, GOT to watch "the wheel" every evening at 6:30, followed on Monday's by Antiques Roadshow on PBS. Other than that I like Law & Order, HGTV, Learning Channel, AMC (they show a lot of good movies ), Golden Girls (in a pinch), Diner's Drive-ins and Dives, any show that has to do with cake decorating, Ice Road Truckers, this season really liked the Ameria's Got Talent and agreed with the voting most of the time. History, Outdoors or National Geographic usually have something to watch if there's nothing else. If I can't find anything to watch and get tired of watching Marvin checking his eyelids for holes, I just go to the computer. ;D
Like I said, I love reality: On reality my most favorite is "Survivor" I really really like Greys Anatomy and Private Practise. I am taping FlashForward. That is a new one and thought my hubby and I would like that. We also love NCIS and my hubby and I watch the cooking channel alot while other things are taping. We liked Next Food Network Star, Chopped, Iron Chef of America and Challenge. Seems like we watch a lot of tv but really we don't. We tape everything and then when we get done working outside and all the work is done we go to our list and watch things we have taped and fast forward through all the commercials so the hour shows last about 25 minutes.
Hope you all are having a good day. I must get back to work. haha
SECOND PROGRAMMING NOTE:
I doublechecked my source and it said that the show is entitled - INVENTING LA: THE CHANDLERS AND THEIR TIMES.
It will be on PBS on Oct. 5. It is showing in the LA area at 5 PM
It will be pretty interesting, I'm sure, and it will probably give you an idea of what I did for a living for 34 years. I don't know how much coverage they will give the pressroom, but I hope a lot.
Larryj
Larry; did you get interviewed for the show? Might we have a star on our hands? (Better shine up your dancing shoes!)
It's been almost 2 years since I watched any sort of TV on a regular basis. Frankly, I don't miss it much.
When I did watch, I liked pretty much anything on PBS, HGTV, Discovery Channel, some the History Channel programs. My "guilty pleasures" were American Idol, So You Think You Can Dance?,The Price is Right and classic reruns (Andyy Griffith show, I Love Lucy, Bewitched, etc.)
House, LOST, Modern Marvels, Wild West Tech, AMC's Breaking Bad, Dirty Jobs (and just Mike Rowe in general), Adult Swim on Cartoon Network (gotta watch Squidbillies), Bill O'Reilly, Glenn Beck, Sean Hannity and pretty much Fox News Channel.
AND NASCAR!!!
Basketball, football, golf, horse racing, Wheel of Fortune of course, Jeopardy, my long time standbys, General Hospital and One Life to Live. Then there is Charmed, Golden Girls, Murder She Wrote. I like DWTS because it is live, not a rerun and features some of my favorite stars. Oh, yes, channel surfing.
one of my favorites is on now. World Series of Poker. :-\ but Marvin don't understand Texas Hold'um so I'm not watching, like a good girl.
I always watch LOST when it's on but damn that show gets aggravatin!!!!
Did any of you watch Jericho when it was on? I thought it was pretty good but sure didn't last long ???
Tobina, LOL, no, I've been gone for a few years and "uncle Otis" passed away last year. Besides, I was not even a noticeable cog in a very large wheel. I knew Mr. Chandler because he was always present and available to the employees. He would walk through the pressroom with all the ink and paper dust and noise, in his shirt and tie with the sleeves rolled up and shake your hand even though your hand might be filthy. The best part was, there were over 300 pressmen at that time and once he met you, he could call you by name the next time he saw you. I really hope they do a good job on this show. There is so much about this family that was just wonderful.
Larryj
Grey's Anatomy...Private Practice...Lost...Any of the soaps on Ch. 12...About broke my heart when I had to watch the last episode of Guiding Light (how dare they remove my favorite soap??)...Antiques Roadshow...The Food Network...HG TV...The History Channel...The Discovery Channel...Lifetime...Animal Planet...Desperate Housewives...Ugly Betty...Extreme Makeover: Home Editon...Any of the old movie channels...Cartoon Network...Boomerang...Anything that is completely removed from real life...I get enough reality on a daily basis...I sure as heck don't need anything even resembling reality beaming at me from the boob tube!
I wasn't going to respond to this thread, as most of the summer I kept the tv on for the noise and maybe an animal show or two.
I do enjoy the Animal Channel and The Dog Whisperer (I think it is Nat-Geo) and I was so hooked on ER that when they took it off, I had withdrawal and stopped watching.
But, I just last night watched Flashfoward and was hooked in the first 5 minutes.
Boy, was that good. I also think Mercy will take the place of ER.......and of course, I watch Dancing With The Stars....but maybe not all the time.
I use to watch all NBC programs, but this year it isn't as exciting. I really don't care for what they think is funny, and have been going to the other channels.....I love the Law and Order shows and am starting to watch CSI and there is another one "The Mentalist" not sure which channel....I think CBS.
When I find one I really like, then they either take it off or it is one I must follow faithfully or get left behind......so I usually stick to Football and basketball games and I also like to spend time with the Food Channel.
Good thread to who ever started this.....I must watch it more than I thought.......it is always on the information channel when it is on daytimes.........like the radio part.
So, I tried to watch Flashforward last night... I lost interest. The beginning was slow. Maybe the first show had to be that way to understand where they're at the rest of the season, but I doubt I'll watch it much.
I actually watched Project Runway on Lifetime, and switched back and forth to Gray's Anatomy during commercials. Gray's was pretty depressing, actually.
Chuck had to go downstairs so he could watch the Mentalist. I like that show, too, but Project Runway has caught my attention lately, and they're at the same time.
Larry; too bad they didn't interview you for the show. Your account of Mr. Chandler is pretty cool and would make a neat addition to the show. Will the show be like a movie, or more like a "life and times of..." type show?
I am not sure, but I think it will be like a "life and times" type show. A biography of the family during its heyday. There is so much history with this family, not only the paper, but the shaping of Los Angeles itself.
Larryj
My wife and I usually watch TV in separate rooms, but we do join together to watch LOST, Desperate Housewives, Flash Forward and a few others. I'm a news, history and documentary junkie, so I love PBS, the History Channel, etc.
Ghost Whisperer... Lie To Me... Moonlight....( which they took off... :'( )
TVO'd so I NEVER miss them.. ;D
ESPN, Golf Ch., Nat. Geo., History & History Intl, Military Ch., Jay Leno, Curb Your Enthusiasm, The Office, PBS, Discover, Science Ch., BBC Amer., The 3 C-Spans. I take Netflix for movies, (watching the "BallyKissAngel" Irish series, just finished "MI-5" and James Herriot's "All Creatures, Great and Small".... love the brits shows....the Scottish "Monarch of the Glen," all of the "Sherlock Holmes" series with Jeremy Brett as Holmes, The Singing Detective" (great Mini-series) "House of Cards Trilogy" (another great mini-series) all of John LeCarre Stuff-"Smileys People" "Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy (all great mini-series).... enjoyed "Six Feet Under" and Robert B. Parker's "Jesse Stone" series of movies. Netflix is a goldmine for entertainment... have 140 movies in my queue, will probably be dead before I get through them all.... have stopped going to the local theatre, just wait until it comes on Netflix. .... watch college football on Saturdays (Go UGA) and Pro football on Sundays. Watch very few american series shows.... most seem pretty quirky.
I LOVE college basketball (esp. KU), NFL football, Dancing w/the stars, game shows, How it's made, Antique Roadshow, America's Got talent, Pro Bowling, Pro golf, and FOX news. And a good book close by, when all of the above are not too "whoopy".
Hey, I like a girl who places quote marks around "whoopy."
;D ;D ;D
Don't watch alot of tv, but when I do its History Channel, espcially their "what if" type of shows, Nat. Geographic, Animal Planet, Outdoor Channel. I cannot stand sitcoms or the Dancing w/ the Stars, American Idol type of programs. Man vs. Wild, Survivorman, Surviving Disaster, are some of my favorites.
Anybody been watching the Ken Burns "National Park" series on PBS this week?? What great history on our 58 national parks.
I'm not watching it, however here's an editorial by Gary North about the natioal parks.
By the way, the states ought to own the national parks and public lands too. Other than post offices
and military posts, the feds should not own lands.
Isn't Ken Burns the guy who did not get the history of the Civil War right either?
http://www.marketoracle.co.uk/Article13801.html
We watch ALOT of Nickolodeon and Disney channel in our house but when I do get control of the TV I like to watch animal planet- the emergency vet shows and the animal cops shows. I like watching the American Idol auditions....good for a laugh LOL. Ghost Whisperer, Army Wives, Secret Life of the American Teenager, Lincoln Heights, I love watching the Dancing shows, So you think you can dance and theres some other ones. Not really into survivor or that much reality tv
All the post offices in Howard are owned by private citizens and are leased back to the post office for many stamps. I don't think states should have rights to own parks either. They have a worse track record of keeping things maintained than the feds.
I forget how those of you that were here during the Civil War seem to know personally every event and sequence of events that happened... Next you are going to tell be the south won because Lee surrendered not Davis.
There was a cool show on last night called Mega Structures about a proposed mile high skyscraper that could house thousands of people, floors are designed for vertical agriculture, and fire safe rooms at strategic locations throughout. It showed the problems with wind over the height of 1500ft and how a counter-balance mass could be used to keep the top residents from getting motion sickness from the swaying during high winds.
Cheyenne; I really enjoy Army Wives, too. I don't know how accurately it reflects Army life and living on base, but I enjoy the drama.
Yes, the PBS series on our national parks has been wonderful. It's so great to spend an evening away from the talking heads of Fox, and CNBC and CNN ... and also to avoid the silliness that seems to dominate television programs these days.
We've been enjoying it too. Ken Burns is one of ours, you know, spent his childhood, or at least part of it here in Newark. I just put that in because it will annoy a few people.
Does anyone have any comments on the two hour "House" last night? I thought it was a terrific show.
Larryj
I am currently watching my favorite, 'Are You Smarter Than A Fifth Grader?'. Larry, I keep forgetting about 'House', I've seen it a few times and liked it. I think I got off onto some crime show on the History channel last night.
I have some friends who are military wives and they say the show is pretty accurate to life on base. Just more focused on behind the scenes of what you see when you visit base.
Larry we both really enjoyed the two hour House. His character is so complicated anyway, it was very interesting to see how he tried to resolve being a "fix it" Doctor with the humanity and foibles of the other guests (and his own) at the institution.
