Willie Nelson's public statement regarding being caught with a bag of Marijuana:
"It's a good thing I had a bag of Marijuana instead of a bag of spinach. I'd be dead by now."
lol lol When I heard this, I thought it was kinda funny... :D
I know there are lots of Willie Nelson fans out there and you will probably want to throw eggs at me for saying this, but I don't think that ole' guy can carry a sour note in a bucket!! He always sounds like he's way off key and flat. I vaguely remember Johnny Western, DJ for KFDI radio, telling about Waylon Jennings saying about the same thing regarding Willie.
What is amazing is how Willie has managed to make millions of $$$$$$ sounding like that.
Don't you think he might have made it on his looks? I spend so much time trying to get past his looks that I miss the voice part.
On a scale of 1 to 10.........I'd rate his looks a minus 20!
;D
I have always liked Willie. I like his style and his definete unique voice. :D
... but then , I am one of those odd ducks that can't stand Johnny Cash's music. YUCK.. Now that guy just ...to me....can not sing and June Carter ( Cash) should definetely not ever open her mouth to try to sing a tune.. ( she hurts my ears)
But that is why I guess they have all kinds of singers for all kinds of listeners.. ;)
For the very best, how about Frank Sinatra, Perry Como, John Denver and I could go on all day. All these old guys beat today's so-called singers, hands down.
I like them too.
I like all music except Opera and Latin and Mexican stuff.
My answer to all the Country Western folks is, just a look a Alan Jackson. Not only can he sing he is GOOD LOOKING!!!!!!.
Army Mom
Who is Alan Jackson? Personally, the best thing I have found on television, after football of course, is the half hour infomercial selling lovesongs of the past by the old artists. I can sit through that one over and over. I can't afford the set of CD's.
Well Mama Wilma.. I would put a set of the CD's of old love songs on my Christmas list and give it to my daughters... ;)
And Alan Jackson is one of my favorites.. to look at AND to listen to. :)
((Nice to see you posting Army Mom)) ;D
Who-hoo! Of all the country music artists today, I would have to say that Alan Jackson ranks No. 1! He's my favorite, in today's artists.
This is just my opinion, but so many artists today claim to be "country" but they are so far from it. It sounds like a racket.............. something like a cat getting its tail caught in the door.
We much prefer the "traditonal country," such as Loretta Lynn, Hank Williams, SR., Ernest Tubb, just to name a few.
You are so right. I will have to try to take a look at this Alan Jackson. I am glad you put that SR. in there.
Now girls... I like ole' wild ass Hank Jr. :D
I have just about all of his CD's and when he is jamming out.. I am at my best in letting my hair down.
TaTa & Marine Mom... Not a peep out of you both on this!
Letting my hair down to some of this nice people in here literally means setting back by a campfire and chilling out))
Let them think that is all I do... 8)
I have to try to uphold my innocent and quiet reputation you know...
;D ;D ;D
HA HA HA HA~~ (((((Holding my belly, rolling around on the floor laughing..)))))
I know that not a soul believed all of that drival I just said, but a girl has to try you know~.. ::) :P ;)
How about this one? Jimmy Dean's uncle Jimmy Dean. He wasn't country western. He was a cowboy singer. He sang on a show on one of the Wichita stations in the early 40's. It was called Dinner Bell Time. Les Jarvis was the MC and the band consisted of Vern Nydegger, his brother, Lee, and his wife Mildred. I think there might have been another whose name didn't stay with me. Jimmy Dean also played with the band. Now, that one is an oldie.
Oh My Gosh, Mother. I have never even heard of Dinner Bell Time or Jimmy Dean's uncle Jimmy Dean. I have never even heard you talk about this type of stuff before.
Now, when we were growing up, we had this old Victrola that played these old thick records, 78's I think. We would wind that thing up and put on Hank Williams Sr. We just loved him. Ha
You surely remember hearing about how Grandma named the neighbor's new baby boy, Jimmy Dean, don't you? I didn't think I had neglected your education that badly. There is probably a lot that you haven't heard about me growing up. That is why I am writing my memoirs and you will get a copy for Christmas some year.
Uncle Jimmy Dean was a lot like Gene Autry and had the nicest singing voice. Not a beautiful voice, but a nice soft soothing voice.
I need to amend my opinion of country singers. I heard Martina McBride sing the national anthem at a ball game and she didn't fracture it. It was beautiful as it was meant to be. Kudos to Martina.
Kudos???? Mother, where did you pick that word up at?
I don't know. Probably from one of your books that I read.
Holy Buckets ~~~~~~~```` This is Jo McD. using Sherri's "confuser" and I am here to say
LET ME HAVE WAYLON JENNINGS !!!!! ohhhhhhhhh myyyyy gosh He is my heart smiler!!!
And I have to agree with my Teresa ---- Hank Jr. is definitely NOT BAD !!!
HAVE A HAPPY WESTERN DAY, y'all !
Well, Jo, I think everyone has to admit that you are much younger than I. I still like the older stars the best.
Don says he does, too! Ye-e-ea-a-! Two bits, four bits, six bits, a dollar, all for Hank Williams, Sr. stand up and holler! Y-e-e-a-a! Who-hoo!
Y-e-e-a-a! Who-hoo!!!
I don't know. Give me a young Elvis the pelvis and I'll be happy.
When Elvis first appeared on television, way back in the early 50's, my sister told me that his singing wasn't bad if you didn't have to watch him. I feel that way about most of the contemporary entertainers today. Now I find that listening to Elvis sing isn't much different from listening to his contemporaries. So, Janet, does that put you with us oldtimers?
No, Mother, I could never be considered an old-timer. You know that my goal in life is to live to be 99 years old. That's the only goal that I have.

God help us all........................... ::)
Mama Wilma and Mama Jo,
Ms. T is being mean because she doesn't want me to live to be 99. :-[ If I live to be 99 and she lives to be older than me, how old do you think she will be?????? 101 years old. That's how old. :o :o
sighhhhhhhhhhhhh.......... I swear TaTa.. you are the biggest tattle tale in the world. ::)
