Dr. Tiller was shot and killed at a church in east Wichita this morning. More can be learned at KWCH.com.
Can' really say that I will lose any sleep over this one. I guess what goes around comes around...
I'm sad any time a human life is lost, and that certainly includes the unborn.
This act was malicious and ignorant. It will only set back the noble efforts that have been made to reduce the number of abortions in our state.
Well said Rudy.

I agree rudy, but i honestly do not mourn his passing. he was a murderer pure and simple and i can't get past the fact that he was allowed to murder brutally so many innocent children.
Mic 6:14 Thou shalt eat, but not be satisfied; and thy casting down [shall be] in the midst of thee; and thou shalt take hold, but shalt not deliver; and [that] which thou deliverest will I give up to the sword.
Mat 26:52 Then said Jesus unto him, Put up again thy sword into his place: for all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword.
Not trying to start anything but why do you say that it is ignorant? Malicious I can understand.
There you go.
My opinion only:
It was ignorance, as far as I am concerned ---- any killing is ignorance - no one that has a smidgen of a brain would think they could walk into a public place and get away with murder. Then jump into a rental car ?? and drive away??? Holy buckets, we have idiots walking among us every day. The man that preformed this horrendous act was, in my opinion, an ignorant individual that preformed an ignorant act !!! No one and I do mean NO ONE has the right to take another life ---and I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that this is going to be 'jumped on" --- Dr. Tiller DID take other lives and by the justice dealt by God-- he would have gotten his judgment that was due him.
It is a sad state of affairs --

You are right Jo.

You know he could have been a father of a child that was murdered by this butcher. If that were the case, i can sympathize with him.
Teller is gone. I seriously doubt abortion is. I don't believe back alleys are a real good answer. It wasn't a good thing is the past and I don't believe it would be a good thing now or in the future.
I agree..................could say lots more.. but think I will leave it at that..
( Besides Sally is probably stroking out because I agree with her on something.. ;D)
Here's my post from the Politics section...after reading this thread, I'm compelled to post it here, too.
I rarely enter the 'politics' section of the Forum. I often find the discourse in this section too far to the right and my skin is just not thick enough!
I do feel called to post today in defense of the Tiller family. My position on abortion is not important, but I do have a personal connection to this tragedy, and in addition to being saddened by this cowardly murder, I'm saddened by the lack of respect given to this family in the previous posts.
While I had never met Dr. Tiller, the Tiller's are our clients at our veterinary clinic in Andover, as are their grown children. David and I have helped care for their pets for many years. Mrs. Tiller and their daughters are each wonderful, caring people. My heart breaks for them, as they must very publicly grieve the loss of their husband, father, and grandfather.
I have worshipped with my mother and father in-law at Reformation Lutheran Church. My father-law rushed from the sanctuary this morning with our family's friend, Dr. Ryding (a fellow veterinarian). These men were the first to find Dr. Tiller dying on the floor. My heart breaks for the anguish these good and decent men now are coping with, as well.
The politics section is what it is, but at moments of great human tragedy, please take pause and respect all who are affected, whether or not you agree with politics, policy, law, or religion involved. Thank you for this consideration. God bless the Tiller family, God bless the Reformation Lutheran family, and God bless America.
I meant to say Tiller. No stroke for me Teresa. ;D ;D We probably agree on more than youo think we do, sometimes it is just good for people to think about all three sides of the issue. You know, your side, my side, and the right side. :) :)
I have so much trouble wrapping my mind around the idea of rejoicing in someone's death.
I firmly believe we all have some of that of God within us. With murder, we are killing that part of God, deleting forever from earth that Spirit that resides within. I have difficulty comprehending why that would be a good thing by anyone's standards.
Dr. Tiller's family and friends are going through a pain I wouldn't wish on anyone.
There are other ways of resolving dissension.
Thanks, Kate, for comments that represent another side to this tragedy.
Sometimes we remove ourselves from such situations to the extent that we forget about the family members who are feeling personal pain today.
I am not rejoicing the death of Dr. Tiller. It is a sad, sad day. Whoever this man and whatever the circumstances that surrounded his decision to murder Dr. Tiller should not be the discussion. The discussion should be that Dr. Tiller is dead at the hands of a murderer. Like someone said, Dr. Tiller is gone, but abortion is not. There are legal channels to fight things that we do not agree with. When we take matters into our own hands to try and end something that we believe is wrong, then we are no better than the terrorists that have murdered many, many innocent lives. Life is a precious gift that God gives to us. It is not up to us as human beings to take life away from someone else. That is God's decision and only God's decision. What this man did was pure and simple murder. Whoever he is, I hope he is caught and dealt with the LEGAL way. What a sad thing for everyone, especially his family and the church, to have to deal with for many, many months, years, to come. Now, I am sure that someone is thinking in the back of his/her mind this...she must agree with abortion. That, my friends, is none of your business. I'm not a public image anymore and what I believe in is not for discussion. My mother always said, don't argue politics or religion. It doesn't make any difference and the person that wants to argue already has his/her mind made up. I hate it when someone takes someone's life as if life is a dispensible commodity. It is not. What a sad, sad day.
Janet, it's so nice to have you back where you belong.
Do you know how we all need your words of wisdom, humor and common sense?
I personally don't believe in abortion but I do believe that a woman should have the opportunity to have the choice. I can't imagine being given the information from a Dr. that I need to make that choice but I would hope that medical care would be available. I don't believe that anyone has the right to take another person's life because he doesn't agree with my beliefs.
As someone else said, A very sad day. I am praying for strength for the family of Dr. Tiller.
Pat
While my condolences go out to the tiller family, I know what it is like to lose a loved one, I have no remorse for this loss. In my opinion Tiller got what he deserved.
My throwing arm just isn't up to hurling those stones anymore.
Janet your words are so wise.

Have you noticed the lack of news regarding the 14 yr old that was beaten death in Maryland? That subject has suddenly become very, very quiet. Diane, have you heard anything about the results, other than the 16 yr old being charged as an adult?
This story came from a blog called "Becky's Bowie Blog" which is written by Rebecca Coleman, a hopeful novelist who lives in Bowie, Md.
Bowie has been interviewed by law enforcement authorities but so far hasn't divulged where she got the story.
It has been on YouTube and hundreds of forums as a "they're covering this one up" story.
Yes, I am sitting here watching the coverage on TV. He died about three hours ago. He was 50 years old. You know, they always say in Hollywood that the stars die in threes. So it is. Ed Mcmahon, Farah Fawcett, and now Michael Jackson. He was living in the exclusive Holmby Hills area of LA renting a house for $100,000 a month. I wasn't crazy about his personal life, but I did love the music. Too sad.
Larryj
I hadn't heard that Farrah Fawcett had died. Was MJ from natural causes? (Although I'm not sure there was much left "natural" about him anyway... ;) )
Cardiac arrest and never regained consciousness
Only in LA! They are showing right now the Jackson family home with a big iron gate. There are five LAPD motor officers standing in front of it. There is an older lady holding a bouquet of flowers standing next to the gate. A car just went through the gate after checking with the officers and she wanted whoever was in the car to take the flowers which they didn't do. Then the LAPD officer went to her and told her to move away from the gate and if I read lips correctly, she said--------------no.
Larryj
Wait!!!! there's more. The LA media is really having to scramble on this one. They are covering the Jackson family home, the Holmby Hills estate where Michael was living, Neverland Ranch some two and one half hours north of here, UCLA Medical Center, and his star on Hollywood Blvd. They are probably pulling reporters out of retirement for this one. I will try to keep up here.
Larryj
It is nice to know that we have a reporter on site for this important event. Who did not enjoy MJs' talent, but it seems almost obscene to admit it in light of his weirdness. Had it been you or me, we would be locked away, or at the very least heavily sedated. What a waste, the plastic surgeons will miss him. ::)
I didn't agree with a lot of the things that he was *accused* of. I enjoyed his music. I was in 4th grade when Thriller came out and I remember listening to the record with my sister. He was a big name. It just goes to show how so much fame can really mess people up. They are talking a prescription drug problem now (like Anna Nicole Smith). Guess we wait for the autopsy. But this is so shocking and such big news that we're gonna hear about it for quite some time!
Paramedics worked on him for 42 minutes before transport to the hospital. That is the news report. The rumor report is that his personal physician was there. In texting my 34 year old daughter about this she said she felt old the same way I must have felt when Elvis died. She is out of the will. On a sadder note, two pharmacists and a plastic surgeon have filed for bankruptcy.
It is 5:30 PM here or thereabouts. The TV media have been on this since they heard about it and this will probably go on until prime time shows start at 8 PM.
Larryj
It's 7:40 here and they're still going on about it...like I said, big news and shocking too....
This just keeps getting better. There are actually two Michael Jacksons. The one that just died and Michael Jackson the radio announcer and media figure. Both have stars on the Hollywood walk of fame. People are putting flowers and gathering around----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------both stars.
Larryj
I agree that in the later years, MJ did some odd and outlandish things (probably no different than Elvis, LarryJ... ;) ). But his music did shape the pop culture and was really the first artist I specifically remembering listening to as a kid. They said that MJ music and memorabilia will be increasing in price and demand very quickly.
And yes, Farrah Fawcett died yesterday, too. She had been battling cancer for quite some time.
I agree there are some parallels between the two. Michael and doing the "Thriller" thing and Elvis dressing up like in a spacesuit. Both became addicted to pills and it contributed to their deaths. I guess it depends on how you view strange. When I was young and Elvis was just starting, he was cool because he could swivel his hips which was considered by some to be obscene, but I wouldn't call it weird, just cool. I know that you are too young, Tobina, to remember this, but Elvis made his first appearance on the old Ed Sullivan show which was one of, if not the best, entertainment shows on TV then. When Elvis began his song which I seem to remember being "Jailhouse Rock" he began to swivel his hips. BUT, you couldn't see it because the bottom half of the TV camera shot was blacked out. You could only see him from about the elbows up. The irony here is that there were male dancers simulating prisoners on various levels of prop stages behind Elvis and you could see them swiveling their hips.
I like Michael's music especially the early years with the Jackson 5 and his earlier solo career. My daughter mentioned to me yesterday when she came to pick up my granddaughter then there was probably some MJ albums in my album collection which she had bought. I know I have many Elvis albums.
However, the music lives on.
Larryj
I was referring to the "later years" being odd... like when MJ dangled the baby over the balcony, and all the child molestation issues he faced, and the Neverland Ranch place. Kinda creepy. I would compare the drugs and self-mutilation (plastic surgery) to Elvis' downfall towards the end. Both were instrumental to the music industry, though, no doubt about that.
I remember sometime in grade school (maybe 4th grade), one Friday a month we'd get a break from the general music class and be able to bring in our favorite records and "breakdance" on a piece of cardboard. 8)
TAMPA, Fla. - Billy Mays, the burly, bearded television pitchman whose boisterous hawking of products such as Orange Glo and OxiClean made him a pop-culture icon, has died. He was 50.
Tampa police said Mays was found unresponsive by his wife Sunday morning. A fire rescue crew pronounced him dead at 7:45 a.m.
There were no signs of a break-in, and investigators do not suspect foul play, said Lt. Brian Dugan of the Tampa Police Department, who wouldn't answer any more questions about how Mays' body was found because of the ongoing investigation. The coroner's office expects to have an autopsy done by Monday afternoon.
Everyone can say what they want but MJ did as much for Pop as Elvis did for Rock and Roll which will live on forever. The Thriller album was some of the best music he did and am I sure it will be around and remembered for a long time. :D
I heard on the news that Billy Mays was on a plane that had a really rough landing in Tampa earlier in the weekend. They don't know if that caused his death, but he had told his wife he got hit on the head pretty hard by some baggage.
we seem to be losing these "stars" like they are falling out of the sky. I heard this morning that Gale Storm died and on the internet Fred Travelena. There was an interesting note about Gale Storm. She stated that she hated horses and only rode them when the movie required it. She said that in one movie she was riding along Roy Rodgers while he was singing a song and Trigger kept biting on the neck of her horse making for a nervous ride.
Larryj
Who could ever forget Gale Storm in My Little Margie on a 7 inch black & white TV?
I wonder if Billy Mays death was simular to Natasha Richardson's? If I remember right she struck her head, she she felt bad, then died later from hemmoraging.
Texan Josephine Owaissa Cottle, otherwise known as Gale Storm, began as a starlet for Radio-Keith-Orpheum. When RKO let her go, she worked for Republic and Monogram pictures with Roy Rogers, Bob Steele, and Johnny Mack Brown. She also acted with the East Side kids. One site even has her in a Three Stooges short.
At age thirty and out of necessity, she went into television work in 1952 beginning with My Little Margie. She had married eleven years earlier. She seemed to me to be a teenager on the television show.
She was always cooking something up with her boy friend, Freddie. It always backfired.

Larry, I loved that old show. Tobina, I'm afraid Billy Mays might be another disregarded cranial injury. He got his start here in Atlantic City as a board walk pitch man...I think that's right.
Read where his left artery probably aortic and ventrical were enlarged. He died of cardiac problems
I mostly recall Gale Storm from "The Gale Storm Show" where she played a crew member on a large ocean liner. Perhaps it was a precursor to "The Love Boat." She was cute, feisty and always in trouble, reminiscent of Lucille Ball.
David and Sixdogsmom,
Thanks for the compliments.
Perhaps, it would be truthful to say that Gale Storm as My Little Margie was my heart throb as a teenager. I had no idea she was over thirty.

I just turned on the TV and heard that Karl Malden has passed away. He was one of my favorites and he had a brilliant career.
Larryj
Michael Jackson was always one of my favorite singer/entertainers. I have a Jackson 5 record album. The "ABC" one. It is in fairly good condition. I'll hang on to that. I could sing almost all of his songs in the early years. One of my sister's favorite songs that he sang was "Ben" about the rat. Ben, the two of us need look no more. We both found what we were looking for. It was a song for a movie, I think. May Michael Jackson rest in peace. Maybe he and Elvis are singing together as we speak. LOL
Also Harve Presnell. He did a lot of stage work, but I remember him most from "Paint your wagon". He was known for his singing.
Larryj
I never did care for Karl Malden as a movie actor except for his role in Nevada Smith with Steve McQueen.
I warmed up to him as a TV actor and liked him much better than Robert Stack as the host of Unsolved Mysteries.
I think I saw Michael Jackson and Elvis sipping coffee at Toot's this morning.
Not so surprising. Now if Buddy Holley and Patsy Cline were there, that would be terrific!!! ;D
