Title: Freezing drizzle on the way
Post by: indygal on January 26, 2009, 06:08:03 AM
Good morning Elk County! It might be a good idea to lay in some supplies this morning as a nasty winter storm is headed our way. According to the KSN web site, " At this point, it looks as though the most significant areas of icing will be across SE Kansas, toward Elk, Chautauqua and Greenwood counties, where as much as 1-2" of icing could cause considerable travel problems."

Lucky us, eh?

Any word yet on early school dismissals or closings? Will the EK-FAC team meeting tonight at Severy Elementary be rescheduled?

Getting bad here, and I think it's moving toward Elk County.

Crazy deal, it moved in from the south. Crazy Oklahomans. They should keep their ice.

Now Rudy, you knew you'd get a rise out of me, didn't you?  ha  We haven't sent it ALL up north because there is LOTS of moisture still falling and freezing as the sun goes down this evening here in central Oklahoma.  I'm sure glad we don't have to be out and about tonight.  Many cancellations have been announced for tonight, and OKC, Edmond, and Norman school districts have already cancelled school for tomorrow along with numerous other smaller districts.

Stay safe, everyone!!!!

When I came out of school, my car was covered in a thin skim of ice...I was grateful to see that everyone was driving slowly as I headed home, too.  I don't hold out any hope that we'll have school cancelled tomorrow, though...Wichita doesn't hardly ever cancel school...It has to be pretty darned awful for them to cancel.

It looks as though the worst of the ice is south of us, however any ice is not a good thing!  :(

I wish you wouldn't send it here, but it looks like it's on the way. We have snow now with ice coming.

That's ok Diane, we got ice first and then snow!

We love to share!.........and boy am I tired of winter.
Hasn't done my arthritis any good at all..............
I can't wait to gripe about heat for a change.

I know right now, unless there is a lot of humidity, I won't be crabby at all
This is the first year I have actually thought about becoming a "snow-bird" but
I don't know how far south I would have to go to get comfortable

AND Cabin fever is sitting in also...........grrrrrrrrrrr.!!!!
warm enough.

God bless

Judy, when you get to feeling really bad, think of me.  I have been out of the house exactly twice this year.  Once to the doctor and once to take some water to the birdbath so the little birds could have a drink.  That was a lovely day.

But Wilma, I suspect that your mind has been many places indeed. The way that you like to read and your many contacts keep you 'with it'! BTW, did you all hear the thunder snow last night? I had to check with someone else to confirm that I had heard thunder and seen lightning and not dreamed it.

Oh Dear!
I seem to remember (I know with my brain that is amazing!) that when you hear thunder in January and with snow
that means we still have some nasty weather coming...............ok all you who have brains that work..............what do you remember about this adage?
I think it meant that on the date you hear it that is how many more snows we are going to have.
Bring on the "Fox-Fire" minds...........remember that book.........Ozark myths and lore.

The thunder woke me up, too.  I have never heard about thunder in January.  The one I always heard was thunder in February meant that we would have a good corn year.

You're right, SDM, I don't really stay home.  Only my body does.  And the friends on this forum are the best.  They can take you anywhere, answer any question and really brighten up your day.

Judy, just you bite your tongue saying we might have 27 more snows this winter! For shame! LOL! I do know there is some sort of saying about thunder snow--- anyone? I guess I will google it.  8)

Hope you all stayed safe today.  I drove past a couple of really nasty wrecks today...and thanked God that it wasn't me.  I have been watching the radar and listening to the weather men talk about whats going on in Elk and Chautauqua counties.  Sounds like you all got hit harder than we did.
