John Allen Jackson- Retired U. S. Army born in 1962. I volunteer as the Kansas Gen Web Civil war Coordinator and I photograph cemeteries in Kansas and in the Freedom's Frontier area (Civil war Veteran tombstones) which includes parts of Western Missouri. Elk county has alot of very interesting history. I photographed a Civil war Veteran tombstone in Elk Falls who was apparently a Confederate Veteran. His name is Alson G. Wicker but I was never able to come up with more information on him. He was born Nov. 14, 1832 and died Nov. 14, 1897. If anybody knows anything about this veteran I would love to hear it.
I can send you the names and contacts for this family and I am sure they can probably give you more information.
John, You have already been discussed on this forum regarding your project of photographing all the C. W. Vets tombstones. Go to the Coffee Shop thread and scroll back to Nov. 15 to the post titled Veteran's Day. There's 2-3 entries scattered throughout the 3 pages.
I've crossed the entries you already have for the Moline Cemetery against the county list and would be glad to meet with you sometime if you're interested in trying to locate some of the ones not yet included on your site. If you want to p.m. me, my address is ddurbin1@cox.net

Per "Elk County History", Alson Gray Wicker grew up near Linville, North Carolina, where he joined and fought in the Confederate army. In 1866 he moved to Illinois and later to Texas. In 1884 he came to Kansas in a covered wagon and settled between Longton and Elk Falls.
One of his descendants that you might contact for more explicit information would be Allan Wicker, 1430 Sitka Ct, Claremont, CA 91711, or Warren Wicker, 5613 Flint St, Shawnee, KS 66203. Alan was in some of my classes in college. Also I worked one summer with Lester Wicker combining Wheat, I think Lester Wicker would have been Alson Wicker's Grandson and Allan and Warren are sons of Lester Wicker.
