I dont seem to have read anything about this on the forum.
The Flint Hills Express and the Sedan Times Star are combining into one newspaper and will be a larger Prairie Star beginning September 3.
The Times Star has been around since 1894, or so.
Prairie Star is a continuation of both newspapers which we will publish under one name.
We printed histories of both newspapers in last week's edition. We hope everyone enjoys the way we have re-packaged the newspaper to make it larger and the coverage a bit wider. We'll also add color photos to most editions.
Obviously, this was a business decision based upon the need to control expenses. Approximately one-third of the Flint Hills Express and Sedan Times-Star editions were composed of the same stories and/or ads.
Nobody needs to do anything as this transition is made --- you'll receive your Prairie Star in the mail on the same day that you normally received your Flint Hills Express. It will also hit the convenience stores and other news rack locations at the normal times. And, remember, this is a Monday-holiday week, so the Prairie Star will not printed until Thursday. That's something we can't control --- the printing company makes that decision for us.
We're still here. You're still here. That's all that matters to us. Together, we make a pretty good team.
Rudy should have considered... Flintaqua Times Star Express. Surely that would fit across the top of the paper?? ;D
We recall only a few years ago when the newspaper had three names on its front page.
No, we tried ever so hard not to choose an obvious name, or a contrived one. Hopefully, Prairie Star will become more than a newspaper in future years. This name should fit not only on a newspaper, but on websites, cell phones, podcasts and anything else that might come along to enhance communication across the southern Flint Hills.
The times, they are a'changing.
Rudy
Thanks,
I will probably get my last week's Flint Hills Express in the mail today announcing the change.
I was surprised that none of the local forum folks had not mentioned it.
I stopped my Times Star last year, so now I will be able to get some Sedan news also.
Since the Kansas Press Association has listed the Flint Hills Express as a Howard, Kansas, newspaper, it looks as thought Howard has officially had its last newspaper.
Waldo, it's on the front of the forum home page, after Heather's announcement.
Oh, come on!
The Kansas Press Association has nothing to do with our publishing a newspaper in Elk County. They couldn't care less.
We do. That's why we're here. It's why we were in Severy on Saturday and went to Elk Valley and West Elk Schools this morning, and why we met with the Elk Valley School and Community Foundation on Friday to help raise funds for AED defibrilators. It's why we have a photo of a wonderful young artist who painted the pool house in Howard, and why we have a couple dozen other stories in this week's edition about the goings-on in Elk County, Kansas.
It's also why we whole-heartedly support Elk Konnected.
To sum it up as "Howard has officially had its last newspaper" is old news. There hasn't been a newspaper in downtown Howard for many years. Even the name "Flint Hills Express" was the result of a contest held by the previous owners to name a newspaper that already had been merged, combined and restarted about 25 times.
We can't run a business based upon nostalgia. We must be thinkers for today's world, and our towns don't even resemble the days when each town had its own newspaper.
We need to reach out, share programs and ideas, and stop looking inwardly anytime someone suggests a change.
Bravo! Very well stated, Rudy. Your last sentence (We need to reach out, share programs and ideas, and stop looking inwardly anytime someone suggests a change.) should be the words Elk County as a whole should live by. It is the only way to progress. Thank you, Rudy.
I love the name and wish it the best possibe success.
Rudy,
Don't get me wrong. You have to make business decisions as you see fit.
If I were to be nostalgic, I would root for Howard Courant.
One of the things I was driving at was that when I now make a bibliographical reference to an article in the Prairie Star, it will have to be to Sedan, Kansas, whereas before when referencing the Flint Hills Express, it was to Howard, Kansas.
I do not think I said anything that was incorrect. The KPA apparently identifies the Flint Hills Express to Howard because it is/was mailed at Howard, Kansas and the newspaper did say it was mailed from Howard.
I do not have a problem with what you are doing with the newspaper.
Rudy -
I am all for the change and love the name you have selected - the Prairie Star. I am one who subscribed to both the Sedan Times-Star and the Flint Hills Express, and know there were duplications in the two. This move will benefit me, as now I will only be paying for one newspaper instead of two and will get all the news the same as before. And my subscription will most likely be extended, as my Sedan paper subscription renewed in February and my Flint Hills paper renewed in March, if I recall correctly, so its a win-win situation for me.
Also, it is very much appreciated that you have taken on such an interest in the Severy area, the Elk Konnected organization, and the Elk County forum. I am not a member of the Elk Konnected group but my husband is. The participation from those in other towns that took their time to come and clean-up Severy for their upcoming celebration just really made the Severy citizens feel "loved" by the Elk Konnected group. After the clean-up the town looked so nice that individual homeowners even got busy and started cleaning up their messes, mowing their yards and ditches, etc. I was one that originally thought the "Elk Konnected" name ought to have Severy mixed in there somewhere, but after the clean-up project and the overwhelming show of support for our town, I know, without a doubt, that Severy is very much a part of the Elk Konnected organization.
I think combining the newspaper to include both Chautauqua and Elk Counties will also play a part in bringing those two counties closer together. I am all for the change.
Thanks, Waldo.
You're a long-time friend of the newspaper, and we truly like your historical submissions.
When you get your Flint Hills Express, you'll see that we've gone in a complete circle. The very first newspaper to serve the area was the Howard County Ledger which was first published in 1871. Obviously, it covered news in what we now all Elk and Chautauqua counties.
And, it was a Longton, Kansas, newspaper. :)

Thanks, Tobina. Not the first time someone or something (business, organization, etc.) hasn't taken the bait. :P :-X ;)
I guess there's only supposed to be one Flintauqua!!
A great big congratulations to Rudy for this business decision. Mergers are inevitable in rural America, but at least sometimes they make complete sense, and this is definitely one of those times.
Thanks to all for your nice comments.
I appreciated Marcia Moore's endorsement because I remember her mother so well when she worked for Sam Shade and me in the early 1970s. Actually, I think Marcia did some work, too, if I'm not mistaken. She was "just" a girl then. But of course --- she still is, right?
I think it is great Rudy. I hope it takes off like a Prairie fire. ;)
Yes, me too. We are all very lucky to have someone that shows interest in all the communities and not just the one you are from. I think you do a great job especially considering all the miles you cover! Well done! ;D
You should still have a physical presence in Howard. I can give you the third stool from the left. The second one is Christine's. So you can't have that one.
Keep up the good words.......Pod casts? Downloads to the digital phone? Did I hear the future calling...These are all data transmission avenues.... you still have to print something worth reading. Texting or typing it has to still have content. Please continue being as efficient as you need to be but don't sell out to the man. We hate men with beancounters. Ever thought about teaming up with Mr Curtis and producing a video channel for the HOWARD COUNTY area. We could call is PRAIRE STAR is Borne.
Ain't gonna sell out to no bean counter.
And, yes, I like all your ideas, PEP. (That's a scary statement in itself!)
The newspaper is mostly in the hands of our 27-year-old daughter, Jenny Diveley. And, she's a true techno-journalist. So hang on. Expect something different from the good ol' days. And always feel free to interact with us. Newspaper folks need hugs, too, you know.
But also don't expect to see something straight out of the burbs. This will still be a country weekly newspaper.
Rudy keep up the good job. Living in a small suburb of San Francisco I have totally lost any connection to local news in the papers. I used to be a multiple paper, Left front to end bottom right reader. All my newspapers are now basically off the AP\UPI wire and a few metro area stories. I appreciate your dedication to local news in an environment that from my local experience is difficult and in decline. Support your local newspaper people otherwise you will end up like me and have to get it on the internet. Of course Rudy is there too, but I still miss holding my old paper, newsprint on my hands, sipping coffee in the morning days.
David
p.s. If you guys ever sell hats or t-shirst let me know I am a collector and I would love to have a Prairie Star addition to the collection.
I don't hug because too many people would use the opportunity to stab me in the back......Too touchy feelie......What would a live webcam mainstreet feed of the historic downtown Sedan do on the big ole world wide web? I would love to see what happens in downtown Howard from 3-6 when I sleep. I guess I could just play back the Drugstore cameras.

We're working on some caps, shirts, mugs, etc. But everything takes time and money, both of which are lacking right now. Ya' know?
Rudy, two words. JUST GREAT. No, there wasn't much Howard news, but there never is. It was usually Moline, Elk Falls and Longton. I enjoyed everything about the Prairie Star . I especially liked the "box" naming the changes made. ;D great sense of humor and great way to make your announcement. Yes, the color pictures add to the overall of the paper. Another thing is the larger print on the Commissioner, City Council, etc. meetings. The other small print was hard for this old gal to read. Keep up the good work and let your daughter know how much we appreciate her efforts to bring us this newspaper.
Thanks, everyone.
Jenny is a lurker on the forum so she will get the message. I think she plans to register and become a "normal" forumite.
Your "hidden" stars are also a nice feature.
Looks good all over.
Wonderful . I read it front to back at Mamas tonight. Put together beautifully and nice and compact and looked very country but sophisticated too.
Might I suggest that your color photos need clearing up a bit? They were a bit blurry..
Black and white ones were very clear.
Other than that.. I thought it was great!
I have a small complaint; I threw this issue away before reading it! I gather up all the strewn papers around hubbys chair and throw them away and usually save back the Flinthills paper for reading later by myself. Buuuuttt--- this issue with its' pretty pictures, just didn't ring a bell with me and I threw it away by accident, mixed it up with all the rest of the papers laying there! I promise to take better care next week. :'( :'(
shame shame shame... everyone knows your name. :police:
I LOVE THE NEW PAPER. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK, RUDY.
Very impressive newspaper. We love it. Thanks!
Rudy, we got ournew "Prairie Star" on Saturday, it looks great. Great move and great job, those of us that live away really appreciate getting the local paper. We left Howard in 1965 but we have never stopped taking the local paper. My wife and I look forward to recieving the paper every week.
Hi, everybody:
A few thoughts --- I can't remember who posted the comment earlier about not enough news from Howard. Jenny and I talked about it and we assume you meant not enough "local items" such as those written in communities in Longton, Elk Falls, Grenola, etc. Actually, a major part of our news does come from Howard since that's where West Elk school is centered, the courthouse is located, etc., but we understand the need for more "items" about local folks.
Even Moline is lacking such items after the recent death of our writer, Pat McAlister. And, Jenny is trying to find someone to fill that void.
OK, here's the deal: It's getting harder and harder to find people willing to spend time making telephone calls and being a point of contact for local news items in towns like Howard. It's ironic that the smaller the town, the better luck we have in finding correspondents. We face the same problem in other areas served by Taylor Newspapers. We don't have trouble finding writers in Edna, Liberty, Grafton, Elgin or Chautauqua, but we have no "local items" writers in Sedan, Caney, Cherryvale, Oswego, Howard, Moline, Chetopa and other towns of that size.
For one thing, most people simply don't want their goings-and-comings made public. If you started calling people in Howard and ask if they had company over the weekend, or had anything to go in the newspaper, you'd be surprised how many people you'd make angry. We're a very private society anymore.
So, if someone in Howard or Moline would like to perform a rewarding public service to their community, please tell them to contact Jenny Diveley at 620 577-2231 or email her at taylornews@taylornews.org.
Another thing: I wasn't kidding on another thread when I said we might be interested in opening a small office in Howard if the old bank building ever gets a make-over. It would be small and part-time in nature, but would add to the fun we're having in Elk County.
Don't tell anybody, but you've fast become our favorite place on earth.
:-)
Rudy
Rudy, what about a Howard Local News drop box at P & J's, Family Market, or Cookson's? Folks could just drop their news into the box if they'd like....
We'll do it.
I'll ask Jenny which would be the best place.
Remember Rose's box by the post office? I liked that, but I'm afraid the items might get stolen.
Those were the good ol' days when things like that didn't happen so often.
If I was in Elk Co, I would love to do the info thing for the paper, but alas, I am not. I do know that as I go through the old microfilms I have so enjoyed reading the local social comings and goings of my family. It has made me feel somehow, more apart of them, even though I never met most of them. It tells you so much about the kind of people they were and their interests. Did they go to the opera house? Did they travel? What were their business interests? What families in the community did they run around with? I have learned so much from those articles. The old obituaries, tell you so much about who the person was as an individual. I understand the privacy issue, but our ancestors will not enjoy the colorfull footprints that some of our ancestors have left.
I agree, we love reading the "Home Town news." We haven't received the new "Prairie Star" format yet, but we're looking forward to it. We're thankful that Steve Fielder will submit the news from Longton, he is "out and about," and includes community news. (It takes quite some time for the paper to make it's way out to Escondido! No fault of Rudy's!)
You publish blurps and single stories on line.
Why don't you offer the entire paper, including ads hint hint, online for a fee. Maybe ad sponsored, hint hint, to cover the cost.
What are the copyright problems with the www compared to the old kill a tree for window cleaning method( don't have birdcage or indoor pets to train)?
Jenny are you still lurking. Put on your big girl panties and show your self. You put the stuff in to a computer two or three times anyway why can't we read it on one. Just think of the paper you would save.
Do it for the trees.
Save a tree publish online.
PEP, the problem is: You're a generation ahead of the rest of us.
So, my kids will probably do an exclusive on-line product that will make your wrist watch spin, your IPod beep, your Palm Pilot blink, your cell phone jingle and your TV set flicker.
Also, the chip that will be implanted in your eyebrows will make you go to the Elk County Forum and beg for a return to the old days when everybody held their Prairie Star newspaper between their thumbs and spent an entire evening reading it.
As for Jenny, she's now a forumite. She's "Cuffette." See the Greetings, Birthdays and Anniversaries for her first post.
The internet killed the newspaper business. Free online ads (craigs list), Free online editions. I have been an avid newspaper read all my life. I must admit I get most of my news now through RSS feeds. I really miss getting that newsprint on my hands. Hang in there Rudy some of still love the ink on our hands. I am all for progress, but I am nostalgic as well.
you know, everything on the "net" may be up-to-date, but sorry, I like to sit down with a cup of coffee, a cigarette, and read my paper front to back. Please keep it just like it is, at least while I still have my eye sight, okay? ;D
Okay Patrick, big girl panties on....I'm here!
Thank you all for the encouragement on the new Prairie Star. I know change can be tough, but we really are proud of our publications. They are truly like our babies and each week is just about like delivering one.
As far as a totally online newspaper, you have no idea how far that rabbit hole goes. It has been discussed everywhere from national journalism meetings to our table at Christmas. We just have to take things one step at a time, while remembering that this is a business and we do have to make money.
Also, publishing newspapers is what we know. There is a huge learning curve for those of us who love the smell of ink. It would be about like telling Poplar Pizza that they have to be a cosmopolitan-type internet cafe. They could do it, but it's not what they know.
So I guess for now we're trying to please both audiences. We're still publishing our pulp product and right now I don't see it going anywhere. In fact, we've never been more proud of them. But we're also diving further each day into our online side, hoping to add more audio, new video, and whatever else might be around the corner!
I'm excited to be on here now!
Just seeing if you were awake....... I like the tree killing version that you work so hard on. It adds a bit of class to the area.
If you can publish a hard copy you have a soft version already done. You just need portal software to reap the financials.
Remember you are communicating with an industrial electrician that is in bed with a drug dealer who also has a butcher shop attached to a grocery store.
Poplar couldn't keep up with me on my day off. Those 'Yorkers don't get up before ten at the earliest. Tobina could waitress there.
Wednesday September 10, 2008 11:19 Pacific Time Flint Hill Express changes to Prairie Star on the Elk County Forum. Rudy am I the first to notice the change. Earlier today I was going to ask why you had not changed the web page.
David
http://www.taylornews.org/pst/
I'm not sure Tobina could waitress at Poplar's.
She'd want to talk, then serve, then talk some more, then ....
Them Yorkers need pizza slammers.
;D
Hey now, easy. All these other jabbers on here and you pick on ME? ;)
I was a waitress in a former life, at Applebees. It took me YEARS to want to eat there after I left... and I like Poplar too much to stop eating there. Besides, I have a job, believe it or not. You guys just occupy my time between phone calls, e-mails, and loading websites.
Might I ask why you didn't care for Applebee's? Is there something I should know? I like their baby spinach salads and coconut shrimp.
Diane; I liked Applebees, and I do now again. It's just that when you serve the food to so many people (and eat it for dinner after work every night, and clean up the tables, and empty the trash), you just don't have a craving for it for a while.
My fav was the Applebee's Club sandwich. And their fries are AWESOME... especially dipped in their honey mustard sauce.
Oh crap, I feel like we might get booted to the "random" thread... Here we go...
Maybe if I post something about the Prairie Star, she won't kick us out...
Got my 2nd edition today! Haven't read it, but it feels nice and thick! Good job, Cuffer and Cuffette!
See, folks! There's a person after my own heart.
She feeeeeeeels that newspaper before she reads it.
Mmmm.
I can't wait on Thursdays to get home and get my paper to read it!! It is a stress relief for me. I don't have much alone time for myself, so when the 3 wild girls go to bed, I get to grab the paper and read and reread the paper!! I feel that we are so lucky to have the paper in this area!! Keep up the GREAT work!!!

Hey Rudy,
Again I did NOT get a paper...I am having a meltdown.....oh wait that is all the water coming down........my gauge is almost at the 2 inch level.........that is from 8 this morning.
I spoke to post mistress and she did say everyone else got their paper.......just not me.
HELP!
Judy
We also have not gotten either of the new Prairie Star editions. I have been visiting with the girls at Taylor News who are working to try to figure out what has happened to the papers between the shipping point and Edmond, Oklahoma. Pretty frustrating for everyone involved, but they are going to mail again the missing editions. They have been very pleasant to work with (maybe deserving some bonuses, Rudy!!!!).
Several years ago I received the Flint Hills Express. It was rare that I received on a regular basis. Not one to complain I just endured. Finally, one week I received all the newspapers for my Zip code; all rolled up into one. I returned all but my newspaper to the post office. I assumed that was what happened to my newspaper but the other papers were not returned to the post office. Just a possibility.
We haven't received the new "Prairie Star" yet either, but it always does take a long time to arrive here in Southern California, and I expect it, any day now! I like to have something to look forward to!
Only one job......Tobina you need to be on more committees, groups, organizations, etc. A person of your infinite talents and creative skills shouldn't be wasted with only one enterprise ....especially while you are so young and still give a crap.
Maybe you could hawk Prairie Star papers for the rural yard mowers and beautifacation union.
.....I have no doubt of your waitress skills just commenting on their hours of operation.
Rudy it is awfully difficult to start a fire in the fireplace with blog posts....
... oh, there have been some hot fires started with our blogs, especially in Chautauqua County re: their sheriff's race. They finally got so petty that Jenny pulled them.
We like to see issues debated and discussed. But picky personality differences need to be handled at the local tavern.
Heck, I don't have any idea what's causing Judy's paper to be missing from the list. I'll check it out. Re: out-of-state subscriptions, it's a terrible delivery situation. We pay more to mail them, do all the coding, sorting and bagging ourselves, and it still takes a week to get them to their destinations. But that's not the fault of your local postal employees, or even those in Wichita. The papers still must go through major distribution centers in big cities and there's where the slowdown occurs.
I always ( :-\ well almost always) get my f/k/a Flinthills Express n/k/a The Prairie Star on Thursdays. I subscribe to The Eureka Herald also which I may get on Thurs., Fri. or Sat. and have been known not to get it till Mon. of the next week. I'm so glad they keep raising postage so we can have better mail handleing. I vote we go back to the pony express, it seemed to be much more effecient, all for a few dollars and a bag of oats. ;D
PEP... MORE jobs? Um, yes, I think I'm set for committees, groups, and organizations for now. Yeah, I'm going to have a hard time living down my late-morning breakfast routine.
Pony Express? Poor Bonny would be waiting for MONTHS for her paper! ;D
Pony Express might be viable and might not.
It ran only to California, so Bonnie would be getting the newspaper while everyone else does without--assuming Rudy took the newspaper to St Joseph, Mo and sent it off to her.
The Pony Express took eleven days to get to California so conceivably it would be better than today's mail, however, the cost was from five to fifteen dollars per ounce, depending on which source one reads. It even carried telegrams, but completion of the telegraph across the west was the reason for killing it.
The Pony Express was only a blip in American history; it was in existence for only nineteen months.
I live in Caney, and from atop our roof I can see the town of Copan, Okla. Fact is, Copan is so close that we eat lunch there most days.
But it takes three days to get a newspaper mailed to Copan. We put them in the mail here in Caney and they go to Independence, then to Wichita, then Tulsa, then Bartlesville then Copan.
That's why we do "exceptional dispatch" for readers who live in Howard, Moline, Longton and Elk Falls. That means we hand-carry the bundles of papers to those post offices to make sure they arrive on time. But we can't do it for all towns --- just the ones we're driving through anyway as we stock our convenience stores and other sales points.

Hey, Waldo, my daughter mailed me a letter from Emporia and it took 8 days to get from there to here, so 11 days to get from St. Louis to California wasn't that bad. She could have walked the letter down here and been quicker than the snail mail.
Rudy, we appreciate your "extra mile" to make sure we have our paper to read on time. Know you have no control over those that must be mailed, but hang in there, Bonnie, your paper is "in the mail" ;D ;D ;D
Rudy, we would be very happy for you and your family to come out here and visit us, and, when you come out, you can just bring the paper with you!
When we're visiting in Longton, I usually always buy the paper from Kay's Grocery store, an read it up and down and all around. It is a great service you provide, to "hand deliver" the paper to those towns.
As I said, I just have something to look forward to, and I'll let you know when I see the "Prairie Star" for the first time!
No "Prairie Star" today, there's always tomorrow!
We got our Prairie Star today, I thought it was the Tulsa World it was so big. We haven't had a chance to read it yet.
I didn't realize the mail for Oklahoma went to Wichita first. It used to be that there was a Tulsa truck out of Independence every night but with the price of fuel and drop of mail volume they may have stopped those runs. The newspapers mailed out locally for local delivery only go to Independence and then are distributed the next day, they don't ever go to Wichita, with the exception of anything mailed on Saturday. The Saturday mail leaves Independence and goes to Wichita to be worked up because there is only one person that works Saturday afternoon/evening and then only one shift that works on Sunday so they send the mail to Wichita to be processed.
The postage increases are necessary for the 8 million miles traveled every day by your letter carriers across the country to pay for gas and vehicle upkeep. And despite popular belief, first class postage doesn't pay the wages of the employees of the postal service. 3rd class shipping pays the wages.
Off subject..sorry..Rudy the paper looks really good...the newspaper business is fun...I really enjoyed my time as Assistant Editor of the Sedan Times Star.
Update! We did receive the "Flint Hills Express" yesterday, dated August 27. SO.....I do believe that next week we should be receiving the new "Prairie Star," don't you think? I'm anxious to see what you all have been talking about!
"Drum roll"..... today we received the "Prairie Star!" It is a good paper, and we've enjoyed reading it. I've enjoyed reading the Chautauqua County news, along with Elk County.
So, this is good! I hope you're all having a good day!
HIP HIP HURRAY HIP HIP HURRAY HIP HIP HURRAY
I don't remember which thread I was in when I criticized Elk County for not having any news in the paper and LO and BEHOLD!, this week there is court news and Register of Deeds news. Check it out for yourself. Lower right hand of page 3. Elk County District Court and Elk County Deeds. I didn't know any of the names in the court news or in the deeds news, but they were interesting anyway. Whoever is responsible for getting these to the paper, THANK YOU!!!!! I don't know who is responsible for the speeding tickets issued, but since they were all in a 55 MPH zone, I would think it was a Trooper. I also find reading about who has transferred property in Elk County interesting. I have missed these news items.
Not to be picky, but I notice that there is also a Chautauqua County Sheriff's Report besides the Chautauqua County Traffic Violations. It is very simple. Nothing that would take a lot of someone's time and I am sure that there is at least one employee in our sheriff's office that would have the time to do this for Elk County.
I saw them also, and I'm delighted the reports are back, so I'll add my THANKS to yours!
Wilma,
Why would you think it must be a Trooper that issued the speeding citations just because they were given in a 55 MPH speed zone ? Except for US 99 from Howard to Severy I think the rest of the highways in Elk county are 55 MPH.
When was the last time you saw a car stopped on the highway by the Sheriff's department?
Wilma,
I see the Sheriffs Dept. stop cars all the time. Just in the last few weeks I saw Deputy's Dan & Joe have several cars stopped on US 160 right here in Longton. I guess I'm missing your point.

Just last weekend the Sheriff's Pickup had a young kid pulled of at the old Webb place South of Howard. It looked like he was writing a ticket.
Frank
You mean that there really is something happening in Elk County?
LOL Oh, Wilma...You are too funny!!!!! ;D ;D
Oh, my mistake. I didn't realize Wilma was just being funny. I thought she might be implying that our Sheriff's dept wasn't doing their job or something.
At least it got you off the county roads, didn't it.
Wilma
HUH ??????????
Did anyone complain about the road department yesterday?
...does Johnny Daniels play a mean fiddle?
::)
That's Charlie Daniels, Rudy, Charlie Daniels and------------------yes---
Larryj
Actually, it's both Charlie and Johnny.
Most Geico commercials have used the name "Johnny Daniels" then in the past two weeks some of the commercials have been switched to Charlie who is so much better known. It both cases, it's Charlie who is shown doing the musical sawing.
But the announcer definitely used the name "Johnny Daniels" in the first round of TV commercials. On Feb. 19 the commercials were redone and he used the name "Charlie Daniels." I've only seen them on uTube because the Johnny Daniels version is still running here.
Here's where it gets confusing: Johnny Daniels is also a well-known fiddler in Nashville, but he's obviously a Charlie Daniels wanta-be.
Chee! I do believe the Geico lizard makes more sense.
??? ???
I stand corrected. As far as I know, the commercials out here have always been "Charlie Daniels" or maybe I really wasn't listening and just assumed he said Charlie, because I know about Charlie. However, I didn't know about Johnny Daniels. Thanks for giving me my "new thing to be learned today" fact.
Larryj
Here's some pretty good discussion on the controversy. But one thing for sure: the guy doing the fiddle playing is the one and only Charlie Daniels.
