Title: Budget concerns for fiscally responsible citizens
Post by: Catwoman on August 31, 2008, 04:55:18 PM
A president's pension currently is $191,300/year until he's 80 years old.  Assuming the next president lives to age 80, Sen. McCain would receive ZERO pension as he would reach 80 at the end of two terms as president.  Sen. Obama would be retired for 26 years after two terms and would receive $4,973,800 in pension (read it carefully, as it is over 4 million dollars).  Therefore, it would certainly make economic sense to elect McCain in November.  How's that for non-partisan thinking????????????  I think I've just been given a reason to vote for McCain...it will be my contribution to solving the National Debt problem!

Don't you think the president deserves a pension?   I think that anyone who takes that position deserves to be paid
something for the job since it sucks the life right out of them.

President George H.W. Bush, who is around 85, would be shocked to hear he is not receiving a pension.

An ex-president receives a pension for life. The pension is pegged to the current salary of a cabinet officer and rises with the cost of living.

An ex-president also receives a separate annual lifetime pension for any service as a Congressman or Senator.

Any president who is impeached and convicted is not entitled to receive a pension. We have had two impeachments in our history but no convictions.

A presidential widow can receive $20,000 per year.

A presidential pension was started in the late fifties because of the common man, Harry Truman, who was living on $100 a month income from his army service.

Presidents also get funding for an office and staff.

I agree...whomever serves deserves a pension...my point was in whom the pension would be paid to...not whether they had earned it through service...and also that, like in the case of Hillary Clinton, I'd rather not foot the bill for lining their pockets.

OK, Frank...I'll bite...my brain is working too slow after this last school week to think...what are you referring to?  The amount of monies raised within the first thirty minutes of the DNC?  Or the amount of people who are already intending to vote for McCain?
