Title: Old Farmers Almanac
Post by: W. Gray on August 20, 2008, 01:31:04 PM
From the 2009 Old Farmer's Almanac

$2,200 average price of one acre of U.S. farmland.
432 average acreage of a U.S. farm.
In 1992 there were 554,207 farms in the U.S. of from 1 to 49 acres.
In 2002, that number grew to743,118.

Most valuable home improvements:
Replacement windows
New siding
A wood deck

Least valuable home improvement:
A remodeled home office
A sunroom
A new garage

Seven things we no longer have to worry about because all have been proven untrue:
Drinking eight glasses of water a day
We use only ten percent of our brains
Shaving hair causes it to grow back faster, darker, or coarser
Reading in dim light ruins your eyesight
Eating turkey makes you sleepy
Hair and fingernails continue to grow after death

Disposition quiz:
Can you start the day without caffeine?
Can you get along without pep pills?
Can you always be cheerful, ignoring aches and pains?
Can you resist complaining and boring others with your troubles?
Can you eat the same food every day and be grateful for it?
Can you understand when your loved ones are too busy to give you any time?
Can you take criticism and blame without resentment?
Can you ignore a friend's limited education and never correct him or her?
Can you resist treating a rich friend better than a poor friend?
Can you conquer tension without medical help?
Can you relax without liquor?
Can you sleep without the aid of drugs?
Can you live without watching television?
If you answered "yes" to all the above, then, more likely than not, you are the family dog.

very interesting info, Waldo.  And I find I rate right up there with the family dog.  ;D however, do watch a lot of TV at night simply out of boredom.  One thing caught my eye, the rich friend/poor friend.  I discussed this with a boss I once had.  He said you needed to cater to the customers with money.  I refused to, and I told him why.  Most so called "rich" people want you to THINK they have money and if you sold them out, they'd have to borrow enough money to get out of town.  Most of those that HAVE money don't lord it over anyone and finally, I don't care if you have money or don't have money.  If I don't like you, sorry, I don't like you.   My friendship is NOT FOR SALE.  I have friends with money and friends living paycheck to paycheck like I do.  They are all the same to me.

You are so right.  What a shame more people don't think like that.
