Title: Elk County Courthouse
Post by: W. Gray on July 15, 2008, 09:41:05 AM
Wasn't Elk County supposed to have a 100 th anniversary celebration this year concerning the third Elk County courthouse?

I have not heard or read anything about preparations, etc.

Only thing I have heard about the courthouse lately is that the clock chimes no longer work.

We had our 100 year celebration last year along with the clock didication.  The clock was struck by lightning earlier this summer parts are ordered as it was not keeping time correctly.  I will fix it as soon as the part arrives.  It is tied to a atomic reader and it can't read anymore.  I think it was educated at West Elk.

It still looks good.

I guess I missed that.

A couple years ago, I had to call an electrician out to my home here in Centennial.

He did some work for me but kept giving me what I thought were inquisitive glances.

After he left, I noticed I had my Pep Electric camouflage cap on. That has to be the most durable cap I have.

I am assuming he was wondering to himself why I might not have been doing the work myself.

I can do service calls in Centrailia .....but after I get the dang clock on the courthouse fixed.  It chimes correctly but the time is off.  It is only about 140 at the top during the day.  I think we should move the jail to the third floor above the court room

I am in Centennial, Colorado, which is about 575 miles from where you are.

OK, I'll bite...How does moving the jail fix the clock?

I think he is saying the prisoners ought to have to endure that 140 degree heat he is working in.

They must not have air conditioning in the third floor.

Prisoners are a ground floor in a separate building.

W Gray,

I can be there in 8 hours.  Small service charge.....We have a cabin in Pitkin, CO....Old blacksmith shop... no running water or fancy indoor privy.   Give me any excuse to come out.  I am there.

The chimes are finally fixed.  Ms Black and John suffer the climb to reprogram the controller.  It has the capacity to play about 300 different chimes.  Want any specific one just ask.  It is currently on Westminster and a quarter hour strike.

And Heather, you did hear "Here Comes the Bride, Big Fat & Wide..." I sang along with it.  I'm sure there is another, much more proper and accurate, name for that song...  I heard, I think, an old Duke Ellington song too, but have to check up on that one.

There is another more proper name for that song.  It is the Bridal Chorus from Richard Wagner's opera Lohengrin.

Next time the clock better break in the cold months or it will be broken for a long time.  We need a window unit.  Its too bad the clocks don't hinge out for better ventilation.  Who designed this thing?
