Title: Quote from Father Thomas Keathing
Post by: Janet Harrington on June 08, 2006, 09:43:38 PM
"Silence is the language God speaks, and everything else is a bad translation."

Father Thomas Keating

Father Thomas Keating is a Cistercian "Trappist" priest, monk, and abbot, presently residing at St. Benedict's Monastery (or Abbey) in Snowmass, Colorado. He spends much of the time in silence, as do the other monks. Father Keating was born in 1923.   Snowmass is 170 miles southwest of Denver, Colorado.

Father Thomas Keating is a founder of the Centering Prayer Movement and of Contemplative Outreach, an organization dedicated to teaching contemplative practice to laypersons and clergy. He is the former abbot of
Spencer Abbey, Spencer, Massachusetts

(This will just give you something to think about, stay silent, listen to God.

Why do monks practice the silence thing? Does anyone know?
This is a serious question...I really want to know.
