This should serve as a warning to all freedom loving Americans.
Before pulling the lever this coming November, remember: both Hillary and Obama support draconian gun laws aimed not at criminals (because criminals don't obey the laws anyway), but at law abiding citizens.
http://transsylvaniaphoenix.blogspot.com/2008/05/british-called-they-want-their-guns.html
I wish everybody would watch that! I don't get why lawmakers are stupid enough to think that is gonna work in the first place! Like some guy that's figurin on an armed robbery is gonna say "crap I gotta turn my gun in now what am I gonna do?" God, the stupidity just makes smoke come oughta my ears sometimes :P
I have been soooo good and quiet lately... but... :-\ all good things MUST come to an end.. LOL
Did you hear about the CCW ( carrying concealed weapon ) permit holder who stopped a mass shooting (2 dead & 2 wounded victims + the shooter is dead) in Nevada? Mass media is trying to play it off as a "3 dead, 2 wounded at bar shooting" story & mostly ignoring it altogether. It's a good thing Nevada does not make Bars "gun free zones"
Full details here:
http://dustinsgunblog.blogspot.com/2008/05/nv-mass-shooting-stopped-by-ccw-permit.html
I haven't even seen this reported on the cable news. But this is a major story, or at least it should be for the catastrophic way it could have turned out.
Of course the MSM will never report the CCW part or possibly just bury the whole story.
They can't praise and portray a gun & a gun owner in a positive light ya know..., so most of the headlines in this story (all local to Nevada that I've seen so far) are trying to portray it as "3 killed & 2 wounded in a bar shooting"
MSM won't report this favorably. But they will report and go on and on and on for two weeks a mentally disturbed person who shoots anything!
There is already a law in place that says that you can't drink alcohol while carrying a concealed weapon - that is reasonable.
But saying that you can't Conceal and Carry and safely take your family into a restaurant that serves alcohol is absurd!
Lots of states have the no concealed carry in ANY establishment. that serves alcohol so it's lucky for many potential victims in Nevada they don't declare places that serve alcohol to be gun free zones.
Gun free zones, especially in unsecured areas, have got to be among the most moronic ideas the anti-gun movement has come up with. Only after gun free zones were invented did we start seeing mass shootings - all targeting the unsecured gun free zones where they can rack up a high body count without any resistance from the disarmed helpless people within them. The only folks armed in gun free zones are the Police (if they happen to be there) & the criminals or mentally insane. Completely ridiculous.
The US is becoming a Nanny state mindset, .. that are supposed to be for our own good, because the state citizenry can't do it for themselves.
I hate Nanny State mentality. If I wanted a Nanny I'd hire one.
Every time the government creates some new law that is supposed to be for our "own good" they really make a mess of things in addition to eroding the Freedoms that our Country was founded on. Just look at the great prohibition on alcohol & the ban on handguns in Washington DC as a couple of examples. Legislation was even considered recently in California that would have given the government control of peoples thermostats, giving the government the ability to raise the temperature setting during the summer or lower it during the winter whenever they want to in order to reduce electricity consumption. Unbelievable.
No, I hadn't heard anything about this but hell you can have 24 hour news with all the stuff that DOESN"T get reported that ought to. I still say the only real deterrant to crime is the criminals knowin their "victim" is probly gonna shoot back at em! I think most of crazy people in the US live in California, some of the ideas they come up with. Maybe while the government is so busy legislatin our lives they can pass a resolution that everybody has to have some common sense :P
::) :-\ but first you gotta explain to them what "common sense" is. ;D then they'll wanna tax it if it catches on. :-\

exactly what I was trying to say early on in another thread but couldn't get my point across
But that already happens. They're called rolling blackouts and we have them here once in awhile if we have extreme heat waves on the east coast. They don't usually last for more than about 20 minutes per house and we are told when it may happen so we can be prepared.
And here's what NRA's Wayne LaPierre has to say about the shooting in Nevada:

F.Y.I perspective from California where we sometimes feel that we have more than our fair share of "crazies". After a while they actually start to grow on ya. We like to think of them as eccentric. (LOL)
As far as CCW we have it though it is next to impossible to get approved for one in my part of California. I am a strong opponent when it comes to limiting our Second Amendment rights as are many of my friends. It may be the company you keep but the majority of my neighbors\friends own firearms.
The legislation regarding the government controlling the thermostat may be a little misunderstood in the rest of the country. Here is the basic idea behind it. Due to the vast amount of people and past blunders electricity is a very limited resource here and we often have area blackouts that last from a few hours to as long as a week The thermostats would not be controlled by the government but by a voter approved non-profit public benefits corporation.. The California I.S.O created during deregulation to control statewide power transmission in an equitable manner fair to everyone in the state. As it stands now there would be times that you can override the control except for times of extreme emergency where Cal ISO could override you. It is definitely a work in progress with many questions still to be explored and worked out. I can say it is not nearly as controversial here in California as it is elsewhere. I could talk on this issue at more length but I hate reading long posts.
Just in case you get the wrong idea from my post I to dislike the "Nanny state" but if we do this right I think it is an exception to the rule. We will have to wait and see.

I am off to smoke some BBQ beef ribs for lunch now. I hope the Air Quality Management District cops don't come by and force me to stop. I hope a few ribs will work as a sufficient bribe.

"I think most of crazy people in the US live in California"
::) ::) ::) ::)
I know some mighty fine people who live in California. Some go there because they have a job and don't want to wait on a hand out. Some go because they have family, some go because of the weather, some go for lots of other reasons. I don't see how anyone can sterotype all people who live in a certain state. I've kept quiet about a lot of the remarks on the forum, but I don't like some of the inuindos that are being put out there. It's great to debate, but keep it a debate.
I know some crazies as some of you are calling some people who live in Kansas, Missouri, Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Iowa, Arkansas, Louisiana and the rest of the 50 states who aren't mentioned above.
mw
Frank is correct. Having lived in California for 30+ years I can tell you that you would be surprised how much they are like you. Many come from the same place that you do. Others come from all across the world. I have been lucky enought to have been exposed to many people and cultures. I would not trade it for anything. As Frank said try and keep it about the debate.
David
David, you have some of your Mother's wisdom and Philosophy, that is good.
Uncle frank
Thank you, Myrna, Frank & David! Because our sermon at Church on Sunday was on "loving your neighbor," I abstained from saying what I wanted to say! But, we should be careful about making a board statement that covers so much territory! In Kansas, I defend California. In California, I defend Kansas! So, believe it or not, there are many different opinions about people living in different areas, and I'm all for living in the place where you are the happiest! I was very happy in Kansas, and I'm very happy living in California!
End of message!
Uncle Frank you can take the boy out of Kansas but you can't take the Kansas out of the boy. (You can add to it though) Also, since my mom and I love California and have lived here longer than anywhere else I have to say the same about California.
Also, just so all you forum members know Frank Winn is my Uncle. I may not always agree with him on everything. But I will say he has alway been there for my mom and he is a man that I have the highest level of respect for. After reading much of this forum I know you all know that about Frank too.
I don't say it enough, I love you Uncle Frank.
David
David, I love you to. I hope to get out to see your Mother before to long.
Uncle Frank
sounds like once again one of my smart alec comments has got me in trouble, I don't explain what i'm thinkin when i say things. By crazy I don't mean demented, I mean openminded and up for dang near anything which is NOT a bad way to be. Most of em are in places like California because when I was young they all left their constrictin middle america homes to go to california where the free-thinkers were! Where they could be with other people with original ideas who thought OUTSIDE the box of their parents. They explored different religions and different politics and I only wish I was as "crazy" as they were. So for anybody I accidently insulted, my sincerest apologies.
Pam since I am from California and commented on your "crazy" Californian comment. I will say I did not take it as an offensive comment. We are used to it. We really are proud of being a little different compared to other places. Our wacky ideas have spread to many places. Computers sitting on a desk in your home, alternative power sources, hot tubs, and electric cars to name a few. I am particularly proud of the electric car showroom just down the street from me. Check out Tesla motors the closest thing we have to the electric car coming to all of us. The great thing about this forum is you are free to state your opinion. Thanks for yours.

Tesla was quite the scientist! The battles betwen him and Edison are largely unknown but have affected our lives ever since. There is still a lot that is unkown about the man and his research. Hope this vehicle catches on and most of all I hope it is something the regular Joe could afford.
I'll have to admit, I've never heard of Tesla, and I've not seen a picture of this car before! It's really "snazzy", isn't it?
Google Tesla and see what you find. He was a fascinating man! They had a series on the history channel about him awhile back, I became acquainted with his work when I was in school studying electrical technology.
I knew you didn't mean people in Calif. were all crazy--it's just that the term was so offensive to many many people. Did you ever think how many people went to Calif during the depression to find work? Most were from Ks., OK, Mo, the farm belt. I know personally many people there in Howard whose families went to Calif. to work as they could work in the fields there. I personally just don't like the offensive connotations that are sometimes used. Debate is fine, just think about what is being said and who might be reading. We have friends and family in Calif. as many do, but you know, they are just like those of us here----they have feelings. I won't say anymore, as I don't want to get something more started, I just think everyone has feelings and like to be treated kindly.

One of the Pastors in our Church (retired) always used the phrase "Just get over it!"
I'm "over it!"
:)
I'm over it too! enough said.
I'm over it too. Enough said.
Whew.. for once.. I wasn't in on it.. so I don't have to be over it! ;D ;D hahahahahahahaa ;D ;D
