I can finally put this on...
There is a new show called "Can You "Duet".... www.canyouduet.com
and it is like American Idol ( in fact Idol is behind this)
But anyway.. David Oakleaf.. ( our own local boy ) tried out and made it to the finals.!
The first show of the season will be aired tonight ( Monday) right after the Country Music Awards on the CMT channel.
And David will be on there singing.. !!
Music awards start at 7:00 central and Can You Duet will start around 9:30.

;D flo.. you are funny.. but that is the way they do the American Idol and for the first 2 shows of Duet they will do the same thing. .. they will be showing some of the real bad ones.. ( called entertainment) I agree that there are some really bad ones out there that subject themselves to the public and their comments.
Dave didn't know where he would be in the lineup..so obviously he will be one of the ones on this Friday's 2 hour show. Then after that, the finalists will start to compete and we'll be watching them compete against each other. THAT will be so exciting!
But I did see him 2 times during the show right before they broke for a commercial. Got this off the TV.
David is the one on the left. So we'll most likely get to see him and his partner's audition this Friday.

Flo - I am with you - there were some really bad performances. Teresa - glad we only have to watch 2 hrs more - Doug & I both thought we caught a glimpse of him - wasn't sure what his hairdo would be. Thanks for letting us know - I bet the Oakleafs are excited - I still remember David singing at the Elk Falls Gym when he was about 14 years old... and he was good then. I hope this show gets him where he wants to be.
Because of the picture you'd posted, Teresa, I'm sure I also recognized him in a quick second! (We get the shows out here a couple of hours after you do, so that helped!)
I called everyone I knew and told them to watch and see our talented David ----- I saw him for a fleeting second also, and felt so sorry for the ones that tried and didn't get anything but a "no". Poor things.
I sent emails yesterday to all of the ones that I "pumped up" to watch lol lol In fact, I sent them the email that Teresa posted.
We are happy for him and eager to watch Friday night. He is one wonderful young man !!
Report Please - - - tonite was "eat out" night and only got in on the last 20 minutes. Evidently David had already appeared. How did he do and did he do good?
We were invited to the home of some friends for supper last evening, so I also missed the show! Like Flo, I will be anxious for a report! I wonder if there will be a "rerun" of the show?
Ok..I will give you a quick answer...
I am away on location but will be back Sunday and then I will take off the different little flash of what is on my TV of David, and post it on here.
We hurried back to our room on Friday night to see Duet. ..and actually the 2 hrs were:
The first hour was a rerun of the first night. The second hour was more try outs and winners and losers.
David was not on this week. Hopefully he will be on THIS coming Friday. They are going to audition more this Friday.

I hope we finally get to see him tonight. And more than just a glimpse this time!! He and Billy were in the same class and it just gets Billy that David is on t.v. It is pretty crazy, and I hope he does well. He's extremely talented.
I have my DVR set to record all the episodes. I remember David when I was a senior in High school. He is a very talented young man. I hope that he achieves his dream. He has always wanted to be a singer!!! And he is, like I said, very talented.
I watched the show tonight, but of course the phone rang during the time when David was being told if he was "safe". I think he and his partner were going on to the next round, but maybe they got split up?? He got lots of face-time on the show tonight. I was very impressed by the duo's performance, too!
Yes, they're going on, but they did get split up. (I don't know why!) I thought they did well, also.
I think that this show is .............I don't know.. not even in the class that American Idol is..
I wonder about the little dark headed girl and her knowledge of "singing". She is Faith Hills songwriter.. not a singer.. and some of her ideas and judgments are to say the least short of professional knowledge I think. She doesn't sing.. she only writes.. so why would they get her to be a judge? ???
And then the guy with that horrible hateful hair in his face is the #1 of all Nashville's singing mentor and tutor to all the big name stars. ( At least he does know about singing) And David said he is married to the most gorgeous woman in Nashville.. LOL
Mama Judd? She is tough as nails. But at least she has some idea of the singing business and the competition.
I am not the only one who thinks like this, as we have heard it quite a bit... in different ways.
To split people up and then just "randomly put them with someone else.. then saying that there isn't any "chemistry there and booting them out.. is just stupid! How can you have comfortable chemistry with someone you have never met or sang with before?
They have some really good singers in this competition who are being eliminated for dumb reasons..one being to separate them from someone who they are very comfortable with ..who can sing together with and have confidence etc. to throwing them with a stranger who after singing their song, the judges say that "ohhh sorry, we made a mistake putting you 2 together..but now you or you have to go.. You didn't sound very good together'! Well duh....
The show, itself, is just "okay" ... in my opinion.. I think it has the feel of being very amateur TV with judges who seem to have the feel that they don't seem like they are comfortable or really have a grip on what they are being asked to do in this area. I guess I have watched American Idol too long and expected it to be in a higher class than it is.
But I also know that the top winner and even the ones who make it to the top 3 or 4 have huge career boosts and opportunities from being in on this and getting to the end.. That is a good thing.
I will watch every single minute of every single show.. cause David is on .. and I do love that boy! And he did get a lot of "face and image time" on this episode.
I hope he goes straight to the top...and just keeps going .. With his singing and his song writing.. ( he is one heck of a good songwriter too.) :)
I will be taking out all his segments and compiling them to make him a video of his journey oin this show.
I will also try to put each week of him on here..( "try" is the word here... ) ;D

Teresa, I think the show is really "lame." I don't know David Oakleaf, but I enjoy watching for the "local boy," so I've been watching for him, and, as you said, last night he had a lot of exposure. I think the show, though, with the judges they have chosen, gives Country Music a "bad image!" The whining of the dark haired girl can get on your nerves, and, as you stated, the guy with the hair in his face just doesn't look like "good old country folks" to me! Naomi's better days are behind her (in my humble opinion!) So, I agree completely with what you wrote about the show.
Oh, well! What do I know! (But, I do love Country Music!)
What do I think of this show? If David weren't on it I wouldn't be watching it. And Veronica Lake's hair style went out long, long ago.
If I find another program (better) that is on Friday nights, I will watch it.
As on American Idol........I don't start watching it until the odd ones have

him here in Longton (Talent show at fair time) and I did think he was very good.

Ok, so the show is not the best. But to tell you the truth none of CMT's show are that great like they used to be. But I know that the people that are on this show are talented. I really did not realize how GOOD David's own songs are until I got a message on Myspace from him. He has his own music page and his own songs on it. He is a very talented song writer. I think that this young man will go far. I always knew that he had it in him. He just has really blossomed in all the years since I have seen him perform at the local bars and such. His own songs are terrific!! I am a country music lover and he has the stuff you guys. I don't think it will be long before we see him hit it big. ;D ;D ;D

I'm not really a fan of American Idol, actually. Talk about mean, whiney judges!
I think part of being able to duet is learning how to mix your voice with someone else; not just your partner that you've practiced with forever. Look at all the vocal duet awards given out; not necessarily to true duet groups, but to singers who compile together for a single song.
That being said, of those singles that they paired up with someone else, I think they only eliminated 1 girl (if I remember right; and they told her she would be a better backup singer). Everyone else they re-split and gave them another chance at another partner. I wonder as the competition goes on if someone will actually spend time with them and try and match them together better.
Don't worry about watching this week; they'll go through this same process with Group 2. David is in Group 1, so unless they just show him having fun in Nashville, I doubt he'll be on. BTW; the show is aired at the normal time on Friday's of 8 CT (right?), and then again later that night (10 pm maybe). So after I posted that I didn't know if he was split up or not, I was able to re-watch the show and find out!

David is the one in the far back on the right of the picture. This is what he does sometimes is go on the tour buses for the big name bands and play and entertain the troops.. LOL
He writes lots of his own songs and has submitted a few for some country stars. Who knows.. but someday he may be a star himself.
OK, I concede... the judges are really getting on my nerves now. Especially when they tell them if they're going home or not. They get people in tears before they tell them they're SAFE. Naomi is the WORST about that. Just give us more singing and less drama. I also disagree with the duo they sent home last week. Glad David is doing good, though! His old partner is still in it, too.

I haven't seen the TV program, but from viewing the UTube clips, it appears that David will continue on the show BUT with a new partner. Am I correct?
Yes, you're right, Rudy. Early in the show, performers had the opportunity to stay with their current partner, get split up and both stay, get split up and 1 partner stay, or both go home. David and his partner survived the tryouts together. But during the 1st round of judging, the judges decided to split them up and re-pair them with someone else. That was good, b/c some of the duos just got totally booted together or only 1 partner got to move on. This last week, David had to sing with a new partner. They will continue on together to the next round, as did his old partner and his new partner. I didn't watch the whole thing; are they still splitting people up and re-pairing, or just cutting them both? I would think that the further they get into it, the harder it would be to get re-paired with a total stranger. But like I said before; the makings of someone who can duet well is someone who can duet with anyone.
I finally had time to listen to some of his music, and I'm ready now to give my "professional" opinion. I like it, I like it. I think with some "show business'' training and a good agent, he could do well. He does indeed have some of ''IT." Some face time on that show will be good for him...but I don't care for the show much.
If any of you have been lucky to see David perform live, then you already know what a terrific performer and entertainer he is. Yes, he can sing great, but when you put him in front of an audience his performance truly becomes a fun musical experience. So if you have been watching the show, next week they start performing for an audience. It is then that David will truly shine. That is my unbiased opinion! Lol!! I agree 100% with you on that.
I told that same thing to Kjell the other night when they gave a teaser about this Friday's show. They showed David on stage.
I said.. " You know that to get up on stage in front of thousands of people and play will be horribly frighting for some of those kids.. But that is when David will be in his realm. He has loved preforming and being front and center since he was 6 years old.. so this will be for him like being in his slippers and bathrobe.. Comfortable as he can get.
The show is getting lots better now that the auditions are all done. And they are down to 8 duet couples. They will not split them up any more.. if one goes the other goes . There is some awesome talent though and the competition will be tough.
David along with all the finalists will be on lots in the coming weeks if he keeps making it.
Of course I want David and Jared to win.. but these 2 are one of my big favorites too.

David and Lewis are good friends with Joey and Rory Feek. They camp at their farm place on the river behind their house. So it has to be hard to want to win but also having your friends in the competition too.

I copied these from the website. This is Central time so you need to take an hour off each one. I didn't do that part. So where it says 10, it would be on at 9 in God's country, etc. The show is on many times each week, you need to be sure you are looking at the particular episode you want. These are all the "8 duets perform", and the last is next Friday when another duet gets eliminated. I missed this Friday's show too, so will try to catch it later this week. You can even sign up to have them send you an email reminder, though I know from experience that you have to actually check your email for that to work... ???

Teresa, you were right; David has great stage presence! He did a great job performing last week on stage! I only worry about his partner, though... he acted like he didn't know what to do and looked uncomfortable. Hopefully, they are getting comfortable enough with each other that David can give him some pointers. If the partner doesn't cut it... they'll BOTH be cut!

I enjoy watching David, too. The important part is David enjoys what he is doing and that shows in his performance.
I just finished watching this week's show. I had to miss the ending last night due to my chores. David and his partner were on the "chopping block" this week. I think they did a wonderful job, although I wasn't crazy about their song. This week's show was songwriter night and showcased the duo's writing abilities. David's partner wrote the song they performed.
I still think they did a great job and can't wait to watch next week!

I agree with you 100%. When they announced it was songwriter night I thought, alright!! I thought they would sing one of David's songs for sure! They blend so well together and sound amazing on the "rockin'" songs.
AND, I loved Joey & Rory's song. I was kind of shocked that they didn't bleep out "hoe" but nothing on tv surprises me anymore.

I was kinda worried about David and his partner last nite. I did not like their song choice, but I'm not one of the judges. When I heard those last two gals, tho, I knew immediately David was safe. ;)

Yeah, I was never impressed with the partner they put him with. They never seemed to "click". David is a great performer on stage, but the partner seemed very nervous. They may have looked good together, but they didn't ever come across as being a duet. Hopefully David will find another partner (or get back with his old one) or move on by himself and continue to succeed! He's got the talent and the look, that's for sure!
Yes!!! they were out of key and David needed to either wear a different shirt or use different deodorant. But this kid has a stage performance that is out of this world. No wonder Naomi likes him so well. David will go a long way, I just hope that at some time he will let the nation know where he is from. As far as another partner, David could get along just fine by himself. I cannot say enough about his stage performance, not only is he fun to watch but he makes you want more.

The show we watched last night knocked the twins out of contention - and left three couples.
I thought the final was next week.
I don't remember the names, but still in the running are the husband and wife team; the male/female couple the judges put together and the two guys.

The twins are named Cappolla. Don't know how they made it this far. I call the couple "biker chick & Will" and don't remember the guys either. Since David is out, my rooting will all be for Rory and Joey. They are definately good.
I watched the finale show today and Catlin and Will won. I am suprised because I was pulling for Rory and Kory since David was out.

I watched the re-runs tonite. I can see why they selected Caitlin and Will as the winners. They are more "in tune" with today's style of what they call country music. And I have to admit they did do a good job. I don't think, deep down, that Rory and Joey wanted this win after all. They had a lot of negative comments about the down side of being a country music star so think they were definately having second thoughts. I think they realized just what they would have to give up to live that kind of life. They were still my favorites, because they were traditional country singers and they were so sincere. I'm just glad I wasn't one of the judges. They certainly had their work cut out for them.
