Well, let's see....I know nothing about Howe or Howell.  But if the orchestra identified itself with Howard, it's a Kansas product.  People from Kansas are known as Kansans.  In Kansas the river is known as Arkansas, so my reasoning and grammer comes up with either Arkansan or Arkansas would be correct, but never Arkansaw.  How's that? ;)
