Hey everyone.. ............Ya want to be entertained?
Watch these 3 videos that Sarge made for the Bushman Harmonica Contest. These entries had to include creativity, entertainment and also show your talent. I do believe that they covered all those things. ;D
Everyone else must have agreed because he won the People's Choice Award.
Now understand... I think he's wonderful but of course I might be a bit prejudiced because Jim ( Sarge) is my cousin..
( but I don't think so)
((Although his hairdo and lack of "grinnin' teeth" makes me wonder (http://www.cascity.com/howard/animations/112.gif) .. ))
So now that you know all of this... .. I will introduce Jim McDonald.. otherwise known on here and in other forums as "Sarge"
Sit back and enjoy the shows..

The 1st one he submitted.........
The 2nd one ................
The 3rd one.........................
These are great! He's good!
Enjoyed all of these, Too!
Great harp playing and what fun!!!
Well shucks, that was a real entertaining tickle. Sarge really can play that thing! My grandpa Amberg could play also, and had some big long mouth organs as well as some small ones. I have great respect for anyone who can get all that wind going in the right direction at the right time. ( See Teresa, it runs in the family...the "wind" I mean.) ;D ;D ;D Good job Sarge.

Ohhhh you have no idea... ::)
I had no idea that Sarge could play the french harp. I am so impressed. I'm impressed that he has grinning teeth, also. :o :o ;D ;D
You know Sarge, I do have one suggestion for your next film. I think it would be fun if the "Old Indian Woman" just appeared out of nowhere and smacked you on the head in the middle of a tune. Just a fun visual I'm picking up.
I like that visual, Roma Jean.
Ya mean he shoulda hada V- 8?
Thank you for the kind compliments, but why do you all want to see me whacked on the head? ???
Maybe cause you need it... ;D
Sarge, I was blown away by your talents! Great!
Well, thanks Rudy. I appreciate that.
Twee,
I have been whacked on the head many times and as I recall, I never needed it.
I whacked you on the bottom once and you DID need it.
Yeah! So There!
OK, I probably did need the whack on the bottom, but we are talking about a whack on the head. And don't tell me there's no difference in my case.
lol lol lol Yes, Dear Nephew -- there is definitely a difference, the way to tell is where you wear youir cap.
Sarge, I just thought it would be a fun way to get the Old Indian Woman in the scene. A little slapstick is always fun.
My cousin Jim ( Sarge) is back at it... there is another contest that Bushman Harmonica is putting on going on.. Old time harmonica ...
and this is his first entry...
Let me tell you also.. This is some dang good talent..
Proud to be a part of that genetic pool. :)
( the old Indian woman is still working too... LOL )http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vnpzHpu8QRE
Windy ole cuss!!!...............very good Jim, Good on ye!
Judy
Very impressive, Jim! Sometimes I can't believe it's you.
You've put lots of smiles on folks' faces over the years ... I'm sure of that.
You know how I feel about you --- no need to get all "goochie" on here.
LY
Auntie
Yeah Auntie, you're the one that said the only way to tell the difference between my rear and head is to look where I wear my hat.
Words of wisdom from the "Old Wise One"
;D ;D
Here's Jim's ( Sarge) Blues entry for the contest.

Does that mean you liked it? Or does that mean you can't believe that your nephew made such a goof of hisself?

Jim McDonald ...otherwise known as Sarge!
Jim: Wonderful. I can remember as a little girl that I would sit and listen to you play and be in awe and I am still there. That was great and I loved it. I really like BabyFace...Maybe because I have always been the baby of the group. Thanks for entertaining me once again.
Awesome! I especially like the little tag at the end. So, when are the results of the contest? These seem fairly recent (since he wished people a happy new year)? Some website we can all go vote?
Thanks Sherri. I'm glad you liked it. It's pretty nice being the baby now isn't it. ;D
And thank you too Tobina. The contest ends on 31 Dec 08 and the results will be announced the 5th of Jan. A panel of judges at Bushman Music Works will determine the outcome. The people's choice award is decided by votes from the other harmonica players who were registered by 1 Oct 08. I'm certainly not good enough to win anything in the regular contest ,but I do have a chance at the people's choice which I did win last year. Last years contest winner was Leo Enry from Chile and he certainly deserved it.
That was great, Jimmie. How come you haven't played "Beautiful, Beautiful Brown Eyes"? That was what you made me sing to you all the way home from Minnesota one year - while you sat on my lap and said " Sing it again". Sighhhhhh
Unclie just watched and listened and said -- He IS good!!
Quote from: Jo McDonald on December 30, 2008, 09:50:27 AM
How come you haven't played "Beautiful, Beautiful Brown Eyes"?
Probably cause I got sick of that song on the way home from Minnesota. ;D
I'm glad Unclie liked it. He's darn good on a harp his own self.
I tried playing Uncle Mac's juice harp once..
Pinched my danged tongue and lip so bad that I'm surprised I can speak and talk to this day.. :-X
::)
I probably should leave this one alone~~~~``` buttttttt
It would have taken more than Mac's juice harp to accomplish that.
( Hiding in the closet) Hoping this will not deter any future favors that I might ask. :D :D :D
hahahaha...Oh Mama...you better duck...but I will jump in the closet with you and say....well...sister...she is right....I am not sure anything in the world other than cutting your tongue out that would deter your taliking ability. hahahaha.....move over mama...and lets put some clothes over us so she won't find us. hahahahaha....WE LOVE YOU SISTER MORE THAN ANYTHING....darn...not sure if that is going to work...I sure hope you brought some snacks into this darn closet mama.
Well, aren't you both just the funniest! >:(
Why don't you both put a red ball on your nose and join the circus!
Just for that.. all through 2009 I will not utter even a mere small word in your direction..
Nope!
No sirrreeeeeee.... not a peep will come out of my lips.

LOL! I'd say Teresa deserves that little pinched tongue ... not for anything in particular, just generally a good tongue pinching. ;)
Rudy - Sherri and I decided we would crowd up and make room for you in the closet. Oh - Yes, and don't forget to bring your red ball for your nose, we may have to come out eventually. lol lol lol
Jim McDonald was notified today that, for the second consecutive year, he is the People's Choice winner in the Bushman Music Works contest. See a front page feature story on Jim in tomorrow's Prairie Star.

Sarge just made this because a friend of his from Arkansas ask him to.
The location is ( and I am guessing) at the falls in Elk Falls. I can hear the falls in the
background.
Darn , I wish I could play like that. He makes it sound effortless....
Excellent tune cuz... I wiked it! ;D
I wiked it too! Thanks!!!
Me too! I can just about see my dad stomping his foot and playing the old time fiddle with that! What fun, thanks!
CLAP CLAP CLAP CLAP
JEEPERS, I GET TIRED OF BRAGGING ON YOU !!!!
just kidding
Great, Jim !!!
Nope, not done at the falls, just sitting in my yard when I did that.
Well I shore did like it all... ya have anymore?
I will shortly. A harmonica player in S. Carolina wants me to play Bully of the Town. He wants to learn it. I also have a challenge to do a rendition of Lost John, but I have to sing in it and you and I both know I can't sing.
You play.. I'll sing...
lol
And you can too sing... Practice signing to the squirrels..
if they run..you suck.. if they follow you ............(http://www.rightnation.us/forums/style_emoticons/default/thumb.gif)
;D
Jim McDonald~~~~ otherwise known in here as "Sarge".
Is the winner of the Harmonica Contest at the 2009 Bushman Blues Fest. in Bean Blossom Indiana ..
The first song he did was a rendition of Lost John . This one isn't out yet on utube..
But the one here is the Barn Dance medley he did.
He was a hit with everyone!! 1st Place!!!
This annual festival runs for four days and celebrate the joys of bluegrass and blues music, offering a family-friendly opportunity for fun and fellowship in the Great Outdoors of rural Indiana. The blues festival, affectionately know as "The Bean," spotlights another form of music as quintessentially American as bluegrass.
This is the 7th year and Sarge would know for sure but the information I got was that there was about 5,000 people there this year( I got that off one of the forums) .
He said that it was held at the Bill Monroe Park and it was filled up with tents, campers and motor homes, then on Sat night when the main concerts started there was a bunch of walk in traffic just for the concerts. Sounds like so much fun.. and to come in FIRST PLACE in the Harmonica Category... !!
Thats just too cool!!!!
Congrats, Sarge!
And Tereso, did you mean AUG 8-11 (instead of Sep)?? Otherwise, a bigger congrats to Sarge for winning a contest that hasn't even happened yet! ;)
WOW! Some kind of good. Congratulations!
This is great! Thanks for sharing. 8)
That's wonderful.
Hey, thanks folks. it was the Bean Blossom Blues Fest not Bushman and the dates this year were 27-29 Aug. The other info Twee got correct and her minor mistakes in info was probably my fault when I was telling her about it. It was one of the best times I've had and rates right up there with the big Shawnee Squirrel Hunt which will happen in about 3 weeks.
Way to go, Jim! I enjoyed watching the video that Teresa posted. And, good luck at the "Shawnee Squirrel hunt!" Could it be that you're having too much fun? (Or, is there such a thing? I don't think so!) Congratulations!
Congrats..Sarge!!!! Sarge will be putting on a mini-concert on September 12 at Mason's Day, approx. 3:15pm in Longton at the Fairgrounds. For Sarge groupies.... this is one chance in a life-time to see him perform "live" in this area.
Come early for a good spot... and enjoy watching the Mud-volleyball tournament, eat some BBQ from the BBQ Cook-off, jump on the inflatables and enter the pie eating contest!!!! Check out www.masonshope.com for more details!!!
Good grief Teresa. It's hard enough fishing all day with Sarge while he blows & goes and now you tell everyone he was a winner. His head will be so big he won't fit in the boat !!! You need to work on ol Sarge. I want him to learn the bag pipes so he can play Amazing Grace at my funeral. As windy as he is he would be a natural.
;D I just love you 2 to pieces... You both make me laugh..
Well, here I come, dragging the tail end of the congrats blanket.
Congratulations, New-Few........That was great to hear of your win, and to see the Video !!!
Unclie and I viewed and grinned. We ARE SOOOOOOO PROUD.
LY
Here is his song he played to win the contest...
Wonderful!!!!! Congratulations, Jim!! You deserve the honor.
Thanks so much Auntie!!!
Well Jim I don't get on here much but so glad I did today. Congratulations. I am also proud of you and so happy that someone in the family has so much talent. I loved listening to the songs you play.
Well, congratulations, Jim. I so loved the music. I hope something gets put in the Prairie Star about this. Again, congratulations.
I went back and listened to Sarge two more times, I liked it so much. Congratulations again.
Here's another one at one of the jams at the blues fest. Someone wanted Sarge to play orange blossom special using a microphone. I got through it, he said ..but the mic really messed his timing up..
Sounded darn good to me......
GREAT!!!
We are going to have Russ down and let him listen to all three of the videos. That will be three of us, grinning and listening and clapping!!
Congratulations AGAIN ---- Lordie, how long do we have to clap????? We really don't mind, though -- just keep on playing and we will keep on clapping!!!!
LY
Sarge, that was great. If I have all these family connections straight you are Teresa's cousin? You are a music star here on the forum, Teresa and Kjell make video productions, what would it take for you all to get together and make a music video for your EKF fans?
David
That's right David, Teresa is my cousin and sometimes she will admit it. I'm sure that she and Kjell are much too busy to make a music video, but I certainly appreciate your thought.
Well he's gone and done it again... Old Sarge ( Jimmie McDonald) has got his entry ready to put in for the Bushman 2009 Harmonica contest... :)I will add some of the comments so far off the utube site.Buy a pair of gonads while your at it!! LOL
as long as they don't effect your great harpin'!!
You slay me! haha Something must be weird about your tounge that allows you to play like that! Wow. Nice.
Foot tapping was a good addition. Enjoyed it.
Nice going Sarge, hope you made it back save!
Good luck with the contest (and the washing machine)
Great job Sarge! Gotta keep the old indian woman happy.
Jim. I figured you for smarter. Sneak back in and she'll forget? Ain't likely. Go get the warshin machine and be done with it.
ya gotta do what ya gotta do!
nice job sir!
Funny video, Sarge, and great playing... :)
Ha! ;D ;D ;D
I always enjoy your playing Sarge! :D
GREAT SONG! I LOVE IT!
Larryj
I'll have to admit that almost brought tears to my eyes. My Dad played the harmonica and played it nearly every evening for a little while, especially in the evenings on winter nights. You do a very good job, and I hope you win the contest. Keep entertaining us! Love those old melodies!
Myrna
When I was typing how great a song that was, I was going to add something else. Unfortunately, I was blind-sided by a senior moment and lost all train of thought. I have now remembered.
When the song started, my normally quiet R.A.M.B.O, who never barks at anything, began to bark and cocked his head looking at the computer and then made a bee-line for the door. He apparently has no taste for good music.
Larryj
Larry, It probably wasn't the music. More than likely it was the toothless musician. That ol Sarge can be a spooky feller !! You need to work on Sarge and tell him how much you love to hear bag pipes. I want him to play amazing Grace--on pipes--at my funeral but he always says he can do it on the harmonica. Just aint the same.
Nah, he wasn't in a position to see the screen. He could only hear the music. I am kinda disappointed in him that he has no taste for good music. Perhaps, if Sarge were to play the pipes, he might change his altitude. A few years ago, I attended the services for a neighbor who was a vet. The services were held at the cemetery inside a chapel. As the service concluded, bagpipes could be heard outside playing Amazing Grace. I seriously had tears in my eyes. All the vets in the audience stood and gave a final hand salute to my neighbor for about five minutes.
So, hey, Sarge, lets hear the pipes.
Larryj
I thank all of you for the kind comments. The contest this year has been modified and there will be no people's choice award, so I have little hopes of winning anything. Entries come from all over the world and there are fantastic players entering every day, but I enjoy doing the videos and submitting them for consideration anyway.
I told tarhead, uh jarhead that if he bought me a set of bagpipes I'd try to learn Amazing Grace on them. He won't do it, so what does that tell you?
Tarhead ??? That's gonna cost you Fly-Boy !!!! What that tells me is---I'm broke and you're a skinflint.
It tells me that I am kinda glad I don't live too close. I don't want to be hit by the collateral damage. On the other hand, we would have a fun time together. Oh well. You two try and behave.
Larryj
Larry,
I try my best to behave but with Sarge it a tuff job. We go fishing and it's yack, yack yack !! The lad never shuts up. "that was a big one---I had a bite---I caught the biggest fish" ---and on and on and on. As you know Larry, I'm a man of few words but that Sarge is a blabber mouth ?????
LOL!!! Oh well, you know there is one in every crowd, but it would probably be pretty boring without him. So I guess you just have to put up with it.

We just got home from trout fishing in Lake Tanneycomo-Branson, MO.
Yeeee Hawwww!!! we had a wonderful time and caught LOTS of trout.
Nice way to be entertained, GREAT harp playing, Jim. Unclie and I enjoyed it.

well done Sarge.
See you.
Excellent! You're definitely a harmonica man!
Dang Ol' son, whadjall do ? Go down to th Mercantile and buy yers elf a hair comb ?
i remember my first hair comb.. but i got it when i was about 57 years younger.
Very good harpin as usual.. and you can sing. !!!!. Whydja keep that secret all these years ?
most fine! well done.
Ol Sarge can sing! Fun as usual.
Man O Man ******** Jimmie Cool is HOT !!!
2 KEWL! 8) 8)
Thanks! You two girls are too kind.
This is Jims last entry for the world harmonica video contest
We LIKE this one ...but DUH we like all of them. I wonder why??
Good luck, Jim. LY
Oh, my gosh! This is so good. Jim is one great Harmonica player. And, since I've known his dad from "way back when," I just can't get over how much Jim looks like his dad! And, how great is that?
Thanks for posting this.
Thanks Bonnie! I've been told many times that I look like my Dad and I've also been told that I look like my Uncle Fred and also like my Uncle Donald. I take all those as compliments. What could be better than to be a combination of 3 great guys.
::) There isn't any inheritance you know.... so you don't have to be such a suck up! ::)
Well~~~~just as a side -- you could look like your Mother- or me or Aunt Rosalie...
Nawwwww probably not a good idea, except to look like your pretty Mother!
That's right Auntie. Several of the friends that I grew up with have told me that I had a personality just like my Mother. Which, in my opinion, is quite a compliment also.
Definitely a huge compliment.. Aunt Barb was a great person to be around.. She made me laugh just by listening to her laugh.. LOL
My love for her ran VERY deep.
Well the contest is over and I won honorable mention on my third video and a $50.00 credit at Bushman Music Works. Lots of really good players in the contest this year and votes came in from all over the world. No people's choice award this year which was my strong area the past two years.
Congratulation on winning honorable mention --- we know they realize you are talented.
We will always be proud of you.
LY
Auntie and Unclie
Congratulations, Jim. " 'Ya did good!"
Well, hey now, that's very, very nice. We're all proud of you, from coast to coast! :-*
Congratulations... and there's always next year..
(next year you will have your production team with you.. ;)..that'll be fun!) ;D
Great---that's just great !!!!! Now all summer long when we fish I will have to hear how he won honorable mention . Y'all don't know what it's like to fish when he talks non stop about his talents. It's no wonder I can't catch any fish when all he does is blab !!! If you read in the obits that I drowned---it's no accident------ I did it so I wouldn't have to listen to ol Sarge any more !!!!
OMG !!!! hahahahaha
Before you take a header into the drink --- come up and I will share some of the wine you gave me -- and then we can discuss this, and I'll talk you out of it.
You can telll by Tar-uh-Jarhead's post who talks the most.
