These pictures were taken on December 19, 2007 of the new funeral home that is now being constructed in Howard, to replace the one that burned to the ground last summer, and are being posted for the benefit of those who live away from the area. We took 3 pictures but one of them was too large to go on here. The first one was taken from the south. Second one is from the southwest corner.
Thanks for posting the pictures. It looks like the building is progressing nicely.
Thanks for sharing these; we don't get over to Howard that often. Things happen fast!
Thank you so much for doing this! Every time I drove by it I would think that I needed to remember my camera and get some pictures taken and of course ..as dopey as I am half the time.. I would forget it just as fast.
Until the next time I drove by... sighhhhhhhhhhhhh It is a scary thought on what I will be like in another 20 years. :-\
Thanks for the pictures... especially for those of us that are way far away. Looking forward to seeing how it turns out.
Thanks from me too.
Here is some updates on the construction of the new funeral home. The first one is of the south side, the second one is a view of the southwest corner, and last is of the east side of the building.
Great pictures.. Thanks for posting those. :)
Thank you. Those are gerat pictures and it is so considerate of you to post these for those of us that won't get to see the building until this spring.
Here is another update.
Just curious if anybody was willing to update this thread with a picture of the finished funeral home? I would be most grateful.
I don't have pictures, and this probably won't do you any good, Dale, but they are having an open house on Friday this week (I think Friday? I just glanced at a hang-up in the restaurant.) Maybe someone can get you picts from inside the building!
Maybe Rudy will be doing an article? How about it Rudy?
It is already posted on the newspaper web site.
There you go, are there pics?

Thanks! I'm sure that it has been posted before, but could you post the link to the newspaper website? I'm all the way down in Atlanta, Georgia. I only get my Howard news through the forum.
Go to the top of the forum page and click on the red lettering, "Latest from Flint Hills Express."
Dale, go to the top of this page, there is a link right there. :)

oh DUH. Thanks... I'm sufficiently embarrassed now. :-[ LOL
The Open House is Sunday, from 1 to 4 pm.
Lloyd is hoping he has a good crowd. it's a beautiful facility, with some neat features.
I'll try to attach a photo here:
Nice picture, Rudy.
Thanks, Rudy. That is a very nice looking facility.
Thanks alot Rudy. Wow, the new funeral home looks beautiful.
i can honestly say i have watched the funeral home go down and go up it was once a sad thing to a verrrrrry good thing today we had the first funeral for Anita Hatfield a nd let me tell you it's very beutiful place
When we get to Howard next week we'll stop by and take a look. I'm sorry we'll miss the open house.
Diane, when is it that you "hit the road?" Have a great trip. It is so pretty throughout all of the midwest. With all of the rains they've had, everything is green, the ponds are full, the cattle are happy, "life is good!"
We whip up the oxen and ''Wagon Ho" first thing Sunday morning.

Hope you have a very safe and enjoyable trip Diane. :)
Thanks Dale. and Bonnie too. I'm really getting excited now. I just hope the weather out there doesn't have a welcoming committee planned for us.
Diane I wish you were going to be here a little longer as I would love to meet you. I think you said you would only be here until Friday and you'll probably escape before I get home from work. Maybe you can give me a time frame. Have a safe and fun filled trip.
Thanks Sally. Tues evening, Moline (Crooked Creek Lodge is our home base) rest. Wed. putter around Howard, cemetery, drive around, maybe Toots. Thurs., Caney. Friday, drive around Howard again, nothing special planned. Fri. evening, the folks at the Swinging Bridge Cafe promised us a couple of good Rib Eyes. Sat. morning, off to Lawrence and north.
Maybe I can make it to the Crooked Creek Lodge on Fri. evening to meet you. Thanks for the info.
Friday noon Poplar's has a good pizza buffet.
That sounds good too. I better not eat too much, or I'll be too full for dinner. ;D
