What do I like about winter???
no mosquitoes!!!! ;D ;D ;D
What do I like about winter? Nothing!!!
No humidity (I live in Texas), fewer mosquitos and fleas. Crappie fishing. Bundleing up for long walks in the fresh air.
I really do enjoy the winter holidays. Such as Thanksgiving, then Christmas.
Our weather here in San Diego County is usually very nice through the winter months, and there are many events that we can attend and enjoy.
But, I liked winter when we lived on the farm south of Longton, too. I DID NOT like the snow and ice on my daily trip to Independence! I liked it on week-ends, when I didn't have to be out on the highway.
SNOW!!! One good snowfall a year was a nice thing. After that it was just messy. The kids miss the snow the most. Louie says he doesn't like FL because it doesn't snow. It did in 1989. hahaha ;D
I would have to say the snow. I don't want it all the time, but feel really cheated if we don't get at least one hefty snowfall. I love that feeling over everything coming to halt and an agreed upon snow day or weekend.
The snow isn't bad, but the most wonderful thing about Winter is knowing what is to follow. The beautiful springtime with all the new leaves on the trees and the burning of the pastures. Not to mention the new baby calves. I guess by now you've figured out I do love springtime in Kansas.
what do I like about winter????? NOTHING >:(
I like the first week of winter.. just because it is a nice reprieve from the warmer weather.. but after that?
Hhmmm actually nothing..
Oh Yes I do.. I know what I like.
I like the fact that I can eat more cause I can wear sweats and the "excess" doesn't show. ;D
Now, I have to admit, I do like winter........but preferrably about the First of August
when it is so hot it would fry an egg on a sidewalk.
I like it when the snow falls and it stays on grass and not on roads and sidewalks and then melts in a day or two.
I like winter when I walk the streets or roads and it is quiet and all you hear is the breeze in the tops of the trees and
the sun is shining and you can see the hills and valleys and just know that if you turn around you will see the rooftops of
houses in town......but, for the moment you can feel like it is just you, your dog and God having a good time visiting.
I like winter when there is just a few more days left before the sap starts rising and the trees start budding and the
smell of spring is in the air.
I could have moved out of Kansas long ago. Had a child in North Carolina and one in Florida and altho I did plan on moving closer to my son's when his wife died. (he passed on before that happened)........and the girl in Wisconsin would like me to be closer......
but, could not handle the long cold time due to the arthritis...and Florida was too humid for me and just not Kansas.
When I grump the most is when the temps just bounce from day to day from spring to fall to winter to summer (in one week or less) and I would miss the seasons.
So, yes I do like winter, because of the promise of things to come and knowing that I am alive and well (well sort of) that I enjoy this time of my life.
But, then ask me what I like about summer and spring and fall and I would say that each one gives me pleasure and it is a Good Thing............
Hugs and God bless...... aoyp I like this so I will adopt it
As I write this, there are about 50 robins running around my front yard. It's about 40 degrees outside. I'd love to know what they are thinking about.
I love winter because it represents a wonderful seasonal change. I can't imagine living in a place
where the grass stays green 12 months of the year. I love watching the snow fall. I think there
is nothing that compares to taking a horseback ride when it's cold and you're all bundled up
in a heavy coat, wearing leather gloves and a felt hat. I like seeing what appears to be smoke coming from cows and horses
as they breathe the morning air in wintertime. And I love the way Mother Nature cleanses herself in late winter
just in time for springtime to come and wind the clock for another year's ticking.
And THAT ladies and gents..is why I LOVE to read Rudy's book.
His writings just magically take you to what ever he is talking about.
I certainly do agree with that!
I agree with Rudy, I would miss the seasonal changes. I like to walk when the weather is bad, except when the temperature gets too far down there and the wind is howling. I enjoy the winter birds and the squirrels, the seed catalogs and looking for spring. I will be ready for that the day after the New Year! LOL!
Rudy really got me thinking about winter and I too would miss the change of seasons. Al and I took a 45 min. trip north today up 896 through Amish country. We went to meet a life long friend and her husband for lunch at an old country inn (1730s.) They live not far from Lancaster. The road winds through farm fields that have been ploughed under and put to bed to sleep until spring. The "fresh eggs" signs were missing from the driveways, but there were still a few "raw honey" signs to be seen. There were a few left over pumpkins in the fields, but the tobacco, potatoes, corn and wheat has been harvested and sold or stored away. The big plow horse teams (and the mules) were all clustered in warm corners dozing in the sun. With the leaves off the trees, we could see that some farms had laundry out on the lines. The Amish bright blues, greens and magentas were waving gently in the chilly sun. We saw a few carriages out, with families bundled in heavy black hats and bonnets and lap robes. The horses breaths looked like small locomotives as they stepped smartly along. We were fortunate enough to see a big Bald Eagle soaring over a field of corn stubble. The sun shone beautifully all day today and the beauty of the bare trees was evident. We saw last summer's nests and a few hawks watching for something tasty to pass by. Even the dry weeds and fuzzed out cattails were artfully arranged by nature. It was a beautiful drive. Thank you for reminding me to look.
What a beautiful picture you painted, Diane. I could just see all of it. Winter does have it's moments.
That was a wonderful visual Diane.. Thanks..
Very early this morning, I looked out my kitchen window and I had 6 pair of redbirds..
Yep... that's right.. It was so wonderful... 6 girls and 6 boys.... :)
They all had mates.. and were helping themselves to the food out of my bird feeder.
OK...I fell out of the loop somewhere. What does "aoyp" stand for?
angels on your pillow. And thank you Teresa and Wilma for your kind words. I love cardinals too. They always hang around together like they are having a party.
Lynne - when my younger sister and I chat on msn or pogo at nite, she would always close with luv u and aoyp - It made me feel warm and protected somehow so use it myself since I am an "angel" person and when I would say good nite on here would add that and the angel. Glad so many feel the same.

... But not as fun as the party we had while Teresa was out of town...
I appreciate the sentiment AYOP, but I alreayd have to shoo the dog and then the cat from my pillow at bedtime; and sometimes pull it back away from my husband in the middle of the night. The angels can just sit on a cloud and supervise, please and thank you.
(You all know I'm just being a smart alec, right? I actually do depend on those angels in my life ;D)
