Title: Fire sirens just went off
Post by: Judy Harder on December 11, 2007, 05:39:00 PM
I assume that the whole county got a call................but, does anyone know
where the fire is?

I usually go out and watch to see which way they go......but it is too cold for me, tonight.

Figure one of you may know.........like fire personell.....or families..
Just a nosy old lady............with a huge dose of cabin fever.
;)

The Doug and Joyce Fell residence northwest of Longton.  I understand from the scanner the fire is out, but have not heard anything else about it.

Sirens are going off again. That is too bad about the Fell place.

Trucks are moving fast and looks like they are headed back out.

with all their health problems that is just what they need.

Keep them in prayer.........it can't be good.

God be with them.
Thanks Janet.

Well, Judy, there is a different fire in Longton now.  I haven't heard the dispatcher say where, but there is one going on right now.  I just heard Glen say that they didn't need anymore trucks at this fire.

Now, I'm concerned!  Judy, or Janet, when you find out where the fire in Longton is, please "post" that information!  And, I'm really sorry about Doug & Joyce's home, too.  I hope there wasn't too much damage.

I heard that the other one was at the Hines place but I was to lazy and cold to investigate.....so I could be wrong!!

Who owns that Hines place?  Are you talking about the place that Richard Palmer used to own on the southwest side of Longton?

Thanks for posting the location of the fire.  I'm not sure where the location of the Hines place is.  I do know where Richard & Velma Palmer's place was.  I'll be anxious to hear more about it.  I hope no one was hurt, in either fire.  Thanks again.

I haven't heard anything this morning..........if it was the Hines home..........they did buy (I think)
the Palmer place.

I am going to get out today and will up date when I know anything...........of course,
I am always the last to know.............unless I get a phone call or hear at the cafe.

No one actually calls me to tell me newsy stuff..........altho I did have on neighbor call about the OD
at the housing over the weekend........that was a sad story.

You had the obit on yesterday Janet.......and if you know anything share with us.

UpDate on the fires.

The Fell's had a chimney fire. Don't think there was damage........I do know they were scared to pieces.

Been there done that..

Then the Hines was a scare too...........He was putting in a hot-water tank, I think and cut into the
gas line and got a flash-back.

This is what is being said at the cafe. I didn't hear anything else.
Maybe someone else can amend this if they know more.

Glad it wasn't any worse than this.........nerves can simmer down.....God was watching out for these
people.

Thanks for the report, Judy.  Yes, as far as "fires go," these could certainly have been a whole lot worse!

Are you still having ice on the streets?

bonnie, ice is gone. It was cold and gray today.........but, I got a 30 minute
walk in and did go up town to library and cafe.
Got caught up with the local visiting.

Did you know that Helen Scott passed away last week?. Heard about it at
cafe. It wasn't in local paper Bev said it was in Wichita paper.

I don't know anything else about this.

I am very ready for some nice sun shine. Would consider going south but, then I would miss
being able to  grump about our Kansas weather.
Oh well, guess I will head for an evening of tv and just hibernate.

Hope you and Bob are well.
Hugs and God bless

I certainly hadn't heard that Helen Scott passed away!  I always exchange Christmas cards with her!  That is really sad.  Does her daughter, Katherine, live in Longton?

No Bonnie, I don't know where she moved.

At one time I thought she was in Independence, but don't know where she nor Roy's  boy (Steve?) is.

I guess one could look back in the Wichita Eagle........I think she died last week sometime........Bev said that
one of the Eastern Star people told her. I think Gladys Jones.   They still lived at Toronto.

How sad about Helen Scott.  If someone gets her obit, please post it.  She was always so nice to me when I was the sheriff.  Roy was a hoot, too.

Janet, I can tell you haven't been in here for awhile...............look in the obits and you
will see Helen's ...........I wondered where you were............

But, with weather the way it has been felt you were probably flying around somewhere.

Bonnie, I found  Helen Scott in the Wichita Eagle and posted it to the Obituaries just now.  If you go to Kansas.com, it will pull up the Wichita Eagle and you can find the obits.  I pull it up nearly every day, especially since we aren't living in Elk County anymore.  It keeps me informed as to some of the other places in Kansas that we have lived and know people (or maybe should say knew people) as well.

No, you are right.  I haven't been on in awhile and I usually only look at the obit page when I'm posting an obit.  Thanks for posting Helen's obit, Myrna.

Thank you, Myrna, from me, also!

It is just sad to lose a friend that you've had for a long time!  Helen put her heart and soul into everything she set out to do.  She will be missed.

On the Hines place, does Shawn Hines, the trooper, still own that or is someone living there?

No Janet,

when Shawn got transfered to Ft Scott, I think, he sold his place to Doug and Kelly
Hines.
