First daughter and I have both looked at the picture of the post card and we don't think there was anything like that in Moline in 1915. We will, however, wait for the Molinites to decide. I can say that I would never give that much money for a piece of paper that could be destroyed with no effort at all.

The ambulance or whatever vehicle that is belongs to the Santa Fe Railroad hospital.
Having lived in the town, the hospital looks like the Santa Fe hospital in Mulvane, KS.
It is possible that the similarity of the names of the 2 towns causes some confusion. I have heard them confused by people that have heard of one and not the other. It would be interesting to know what is written on the card.
Should someone tell the seller that the name is incorrect on the card as Moline never had a building like that? The only hospital that Moline had was the one that is now the Shaffer Museum.
I sent an e-mail to the seller giving them our opinion. Maybe if several of us do they'll research it further. We'll see if we hear anything back.
The mystery deepens?

gives some photos of the Mulvane Santa Fe hospital that was built in 1911 and abandoned in 1949. Santa Fe moved the Mulvane hospital operation to Topeka.
The building underwent renovation for a nursing home after abandonment.
In 1972, the building was condemned.
If they are the same building, the photo at the above web site would have to be after renovation.
There are some resemblances of window detail treatment and front steps, but it is difficult to judge if they are actually the same building.
It would be interesting to see what was on the post card but having said that, the Ebay site has been changed to show Mulvane, KS.
I wonder what prompted the California seller to believe his postcard might be worth $249.95 plus shipping?
I agree since watching the Antique Roadshow on channel 8. No postcards have been priced over $200.00. Unless it has a historical provenance, the price would range between $50.00 or less.
Railroad items are popular and usually bring top prices. I do believe that this is just a little steep. BTW, my dad spent time in that hospital due to a yard accident while he worked for Santa Fe. He was crushed under a crane. He did recover and worked until retirement although his legs bothered him a lot.
They have changed it to Mulvane Ks now.

Will the real Moline, Kansas, hospital please stand up.
This is the Shaffer House museum at Moline, Kansas. And I was told a long time ago by a long time Moline person that it used to be a hospital.
The hospital is a nice museum.
I went through it for the first time last year.
There was one item I was most interested in.
However, I had to look around to locate it because they were unaware they had it.
I finally found it on the second floor -- a night stand from the Boston Hotel, Boston, Kansas.
I e-mailed David Brace and asked if he knows anything about another hospital. Keep you posted.

Here is a another photo of the Mulvane, Kansas, hospital that is behind the horse drawn ambulance.
The fella wants $249.95 plus shipping for his postcard of the horse drawn ambulance in front of the Mulvane hospital.
As of today,
Alibris Books has a bookseller located in Kansas who wants $156.25 for Elk County, A Narrative History of Elk County and its People.
The book has "slight wear."
Other prices found for the same book are $103.99, $123.50, and $157.24.
What would my 2 hardly opened, bought for $20.00 each be worth?
People are just plain stupid. All they would have to do is contact the Benson Museum Historical Society and get one for $20.00 plus s & h. That would be a lot less then what people on eBay want.
I think these people are surfing the web -- clicked on to this forum and want a piece of the Elk County forum members plus what ever else they can latch on to. They have NO IDEA how sharp all of you out there really are. They are not messin' with Bubba and Earl.
No, but they're messin' with Bonnie & Jo!
Got an e-mail back from David Brace. He has never heard of any other hospital in Moline.
