Title: Elk County Historians
Post by: W. Gray on September 14, 2007, 12:16:42 AM
Does anyone know what might have happened to these two ladies?

Both probably used maiden names and both would have been around 22-23 when they wrote their thesis.

Henrietta Elma Mann author of A Brief Historical Sketch of the Settlements of Elk County written at Kansas State Teachers College in 1940. Do not know which town she is from.

Mary Audrey Neely author of History of Elk County, Kansas, at the University of Wichita in 1933. She may have been from Howard since she interviewed Thomas E. Thompson for some of her information.

From what I remember, I think Ms. Mann is buried in the Moline cemetery.

I ordered her work from the Pittsburg library a few years ago.  The Elk Co history book has a lot in it from her research as I recall.  I believe she was from Moline.  Taught for many years and never married.  I have seen a number of references to her in the social columns in some of the older Moline papers as I have been doing research on my grandfathers column.  When I get time I'll go back and look at some of those.
